Small, friendly, home-cooked food. Completely unpretentious, decorated with children's drawings. Expand your Japanese food horizons beyond sushi (which you won't find.) A lovely neighborhood favorite, tucked away. Delicious vegetable soup.

We ate at this restaurant on 2 occasions during our stay in NYC. On both occasions, we had tofu based dishes. First rate! The restaurant is the proverbial "hole in the wall." Just a few tables. The clientele appeared to be mostly young people. I highly recommend it.

Right next door to the Holiday Inn, this place smells like someone's home. And that's not a bad thing. When my daughter and I walked in during a warm, sprinkle-y July afternoon, we didn't know what to expect. So we ordered the spicy tuna/avocado bowl (over sushi rice) and nikujaga (beef and potatoes stew) to hold us of until dinner.... More

You feel like your eating a friends house, lovely service. Nice food at good price. Great for vegetarians. A group of 4 us went and we left full and the total bill with tip $87

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
