Interesting take on hot dogs with all the fried hot dog options. We had a few different kinds and all had good flavors, though may have been even slightly overfried. It's in a very interesting area that seems to come alive at the end of the work day. We want to go back and try PDT.

Hot dogs and burgers were good, but our corn dogs were burnt and and veggie dog was dry. It was a take away order, so we didn't realize it until we had already taken the food home. Peeps at the front could use better manners when speaking to customers. Our food took almost an hour for 1 hotdog, 1 veggie... More

This is a super cool hot dog spot in the city. Yes they have a hidden bar but I would just go to get a dog and breath in the true cool NY vibe.

We went to Crif Dogs as part of the Food on Foo Tour. Not being huge hot dog fans, we wouldn't have chosen this place. But that's the beauty of a food tour. You go to places that you may not have considered. Not being hot dog aficionados we took our tour guide's advice and ordered the Tsunami. The dog... More

It's a must try-- hot dog topping choices are unusual and fun and everything is fresh and tasty. Plus, I was so psyched that they offer tater tots.. which are like finding a unicorn in NYC. Vibe is grungy and cool-- plus there is a secret bar that you can only enter via the hidden door in the back of... More

I come to Crif Dogs almost every time I am in Manhattan with friends. Either as a late night snack before I hope on the railroad back home, actual dinner, or food that I eat when I can no longer form sentences and I'm not feeling so classy. It's a little hole in the wall with old school games. I've... More

Crif Dog is a little whole in the wall located in the East Village area of Manhattan. I stumbled across this place completely by accident with a friend of mine. The place is small but has a retro feel to it sort of like the mid 80's. The workers are very welcoming and are use to people walking in late... More

Quirky little off the sidewalk mini diner in the West Village, bit of a walk to get to from the other side of town and even from the nearest Subway but we figured was worth the trip out. We stopped in about 4:30pm so a bit early to avoid any rush as we heard it can get packed out but... More

If you've never been here, schedule a trip NOW!!!! Get the spicy redneck, my favorite. And check out the phone booth while you are there.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
