Excellent spot in midtown for some authentic Indian food. They have some interesting dishes in all three genres vegetarian, non-veg and seafood. Must try fish moiley in mustard sauce with garlic naan, Sag paneer and butter chicken are good indication of a good authentic North Indian meal. Appetizers are good and tried something different spinach chat, trio of stuffed veggies... More

Good South Indian food, but very pricey. Seating is a bit cramped when it gets busy, but the food was good.

We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel and we were not disappointed. Food was a very high standard and the tastes were amazing. Naan's were just how we like them (unlike in England it's hard to find the perfect naan) helpful, cheerful staff (Sundip in particular). Doesn't look much when you walk in the door, straight into the restaurant... More

I make a meal at Amma a regular ritual for my visits to NYC - eat there 3-4 times a year. It is a special place. The food is always well prepared, creative, beautifully spiced. Hard to choose from the many choices. Great fish and veggie options. Service is impeccable. Atmosphere is intimate, quiet - makes it easy to have... More

In Midtown on business and staying at a nearby hotel, I decided to spare myself the misery of walking in the cold and try this cute little place. I had a little trouble finding it (from the street you can see the light from the dining room, but it's a tad confusing finding the proper door). Not a big deal.... More

New Year's Eve is always such a pain for us; one of our sons has his birthday and finding somewhere nice to dine that doesn't have hugely inflated prices for mediocre menus has challenged us for every one of his 23 years. This year he is working in NYC and we flew over to see him did a few days.... More

We found this place on TA and wasn't our first choice, which was Spice Sumphony which we've been to before but was located handy and next door to a great pub which we went to before and after , The Stags head, speak to Dan Boyd, nice guy, anyway Amma was great but slow service and quite expensive with 4... I took my wife and daughter here while visiting NY this last weekend. Previous reviews speak highly of the food in most cases and it gets good ratings for ambience. The reality is that this is very much a low key neighbourhood Indian restaurant. Nothing wrong with that except that it is just not a special dinning experience. The banquettes... More

This is a small restaurant and a little "tired" in the interior. However as a solo diner they were very welcoming. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. It was delicious and not overly westernised in terms of level spice or flavours. I had a lovely dinner and will return with my other half! I think prices... More

My wife and I ate here over the TG holiday and were very happy with our dining experience. We both ordered the tasting meal which was excellent and very filling (so take your time) The food was very tasty and the service was very attentive. The restaurant is small and I would make reservations.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
