Down stairs in the Hotel Kitano, very good authentic Japanese restaurant. The set lunch was excellent Nabeyaki with prawns $22 and a very good sushi tuna roll.

Hakubai Japanese restaurant is located on the basement floor of the Kitano Hotel in NYC. It is a fine dining Japanese restaurant that offers different Kaiseki menus (all quite expensive). The sushi and sashimi are fresh, and the misoyaki butterfish (black cod) is excellent. Expect...More

As a rule I don't review restaurants in my home town, but I'll make an exception because the experience was so exceptional. A Japanese acquaintance warned me that even very well known Japanese restaurants in New York tended to cater to Western taste buds. So...More

This is the real deal. Loved my warm tamago omelette. The sushi was incredibly fresh with good variety and flavors. Service is excellent. Very quiet atmosphere. Very relaxing. A HUGE step up from the hustle bustle sushi joints across the city. Good romantic spot.

The basement location is less than special, but the geisha girl servers and fresh sushi and sashimi present an authentic experience and delicious menu selections. The rating would be 5 stars, however, my last cup of tea, unlike the two that preceded it, was boiling...More

We were pleasantly surprised by how good the meal was as the restaurant was in the hotel we were staying in and out of convenience we went there our first night for dinner. Excellent food and service.
