Reviewed yesterday NEW

At the corner of Mulberry Street/Broome Street, the restaurant is in a good location. Staff were very pleasant and efficient. For New York, the prices were not too excessive. The food was ok but nothing special - certainly not to the quality of food sold in Italy. I enjoyed lunch but not a memorable experience.

This old Italian restaurant (since 1908) in the original Little Italy delivers! Good variety on the menu, nice staff and really good food. You get a little bit of Italy here.

I had an excellent experience at Grotta Azzurra. Our waiter was very attentive and MY meal of lamb chops, sauteed cabbage, onions & mushrooms we're fab.u.lous! Friend's ribeye was said to be as well. Not everyone in our group had the same meal experience. The calamari was rubbery and flavorless. The pork braciole was mediocre. Chicken parmesan was, well, chicken... More

My husband and I were recently in New York and wanted to experience a meal in Little Italy. We chose this restaurant and I am very glad we did! They had a special where you could choose two items for $19.95, I chose the Gnocci and Chicken Masala and I figured that would constitute my meal. Well, the gnocchi came... More

Not impressed. Somewhat on the bland side .. chicken dishes do not come with pasta, will have to order on the side. While not terrible, i would not return. Fair prices 20%gratuity included in the bill.

Absolutely terrific restaurant in Little Italy. My wife and I liked it so much we went back for a 2nd night in a row. An impressive menu with all of the favorite Italian dishes, along with a variety of different items. Very good surface, tables inside and on the side walk.

I very rarely write a negative review, but this is one. First off, I want to say that the service was excellent. The food: The appetizers were very good...and it went downhill rapidly from there. I had lasagna - bland, a pile of pasta, mozzarella and tomato sauce. Eggplant Parmigiana - The worst ever. I'm not even sure it was... More

Founded in 1908 by the Davino family Grotta Azzurra was named for the blue grotto on the isle of Capri and designed to evoke the beauty of one of the worlds most famous caves in the world, intensified. Enrico Caruso feasted here after performances, and Sinatra called it his one and only favorite Italian restaurant, making it the site of many a “Rat Pack” evening. Shuttered for six years, Grotta Azzurra has now been stunningly renovated and rebirthed by a descendant renaissance for dining in Little Italy, with multi-talented chef Frank Castellana recreating the finest in Italian Cuisine.

Neighbourhood Profile
Little Italy
While Little Italy is one of the city's smallest neighbourhoods, its streets are packed with visitors from around the globe, especially on summer weekends when the streets are closed to traffic. Stroll up Mulberry Street, the heart of Little Italy, for a dense mix of Italian restaurants with sidewalk tables, cafes, and old-school food shops. Don’t be surprised when the hosts beckon you to pay them a visit. Stop in for a coffee and a cannoli, or grab a streetside table to take in the scenery over a hearty Italian meal.
