Stylish Upper East Side French nrighbourhood restaurant. Sit on the terrace and watch the world go by. The cod was fabulous and the hanger steak was great too.

We have been here several times - and it is always a reliable good place to invite friends. Their menu is typically French bistro - I had the onion soup which was very good and the escargots which were not so good - I have had better. But overall, the others in our group loved their food choices. Service was... More

Chose this corner Parisian bistro as we were walking by, excellent service from all the staff. Very much like dining on a corner in Paris just on the Upper East Side of NYC. The food was excellent, the bar was out of a few things on our visit without the wait staff knowing causing a delay in drink service. Overall... More

Orsay is a delightful, airy, Upper East Side bistro and is consistently excellent. I had the Coq au Vin (Monday special) and it was just as good, if not better than my own try at Julia Child's classic recipe. My spouse had the dorade a la plancha. It was perfectly grilled. Basics, such as the onion soup and escargot (twelve,... More

I selected Orsay as the venue for a special evening to celebrate the birthdays of two dear friends who are well traveled and love French food. And I am happy to say that our small party of seven people loved the food and overall dining experience. The food is excellent. The foie gras was creamy and outstanding, fully deserving of... More

Very good food and service as well as an extensive wine list makes you feel like you are dining on the boulevard St. Germain . I should go there more often

Authentic French food. I have traveled extensively in France and really enjoyed dining at Orsay. Service was attentive and the ambiance reminded me of a Paris bistro.

Love French food and this is a delightful spot. Good food, excellent choices. A bit noisy but it was a Saturday evening and it was a full house but enjoyed the restaurant and hope to go back for another great meal.

I just love this place. We had the foie gras (appetizer) which was incredible. For the main meal, I ordered the Magret de Canard which I would highly recommend. We topped it off with a wonderful bottle of Chateau de Malengin. A great meal!

Orsay is a great place to meet someone for lunch, but it really annoys me that they don't have much to offer in the way of salads. When I've asked if I could add chicken to greens they brought me a plain green salad and a chicken breast on a separate plate. Common guys! Get with it.

Description
Designed by partner Jean Denoyer, Orsay strikes that difficult balance of sophisticated-chic in a warm convivial atmosphere. Dark mahogany raised paneled walls meet Art Nouveau styled arches in a deep, creamy butter color. The floor is a work of art, Italian mosaic tiles in warm tones of precious metals hand laid in a beautiful fan pattern that floats in waves across the expanse of floor. Banquettes with high wood backs topped with frosted glass panels provide privacy if wanted, and the low, soft lighting emanates from Art Nouveau period chandeliers that Denoyer had custom designed. A 20-foot long zinc-topped wood bar shipped in one piece from France, and French doors that spill onto the sidewalk terrace, completing the feeling that you are in the 9th arrondisement in Paris. This sophisticated and elegant Parisian-style brasserie marries modern French cuisine and classic brasserie fare. Orsay's award-winning wine list includes all 300 predominantly French and American varietals.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
