We visited this longstanding UES restaurant after several years of not eating here. I used to live across the street and Mediterraneo was my local go-to neighborhood place for Italian food before moving to NJ. My mother-in-law now lives close by and when she suggested Mediterraneo for lunch, I was excited to return. We were warmly greeted by its owner... More

We were a group of 14 - not easy to accommodate on Christmas Day night! Our servers were attentive (always ready to refill water glasses and to check on our needs), the food was delicious and nicely presented. Good prices, too. While most chose a main meal, I opted for 2 first courses - very filling and satisfying. We'll be... More

Just ate Christmas dinner at Mediteraneo, one of our neighborhood. favorites. We always order a thin crust pizza, share a pasta or fish dish and end the meal with espresso. This is one of the few Italian restaurants where pasta is always prepared perfectly - al dente. The sauces are fresh and varied. There is always a risotto of the... More

We found that place by accident as other places in the neighborhood were closed on Sundays. Can't recommend the place. The food was nothing special, the service was nothing special and we were not really felt welcome. For this, the dinner for nearly 100 $ was definitely too expensive.

Can't believe this is the same restaurant with the reviews below. Mozzarella and tomato salad could have been plastic. Cheapest ingredients used and served with carrot sticks?!? Fish pasta had so much garlic it was inedible. All that with a bottle of plonk that no respectable Italian would drink and costing a fortune. I think they must be joking!!

Stopped for a casual bite at Mediterraneo where we met Melania from Florence. What a delight. Tried their secret Iced Tea recipe which was refreshing (especially after a 5 hour bike ride) and also had some nibbles. Only wish we had more time to go back again. Will definitely visit when I head back to NYC.

The Insalata Alla Paolo with grilled shrimp, arugula, avocado and tomatoes with lemon dressing was quite good as was the Filetto Di Salmonella Alla Griglia. Translation: Grilled Salmon with sautéed vegetables, but it sounds much better in Italian! Service very good and nice to sit outside and a cool autumn day in New York. Excellent menu.

Met after work and shared appetizer, Sunday meatballs and salad with wine and Aperol spritz. Later had dessert and espresso. What a great place! Service was excellent and beet/ goat cheese salad was terrific. We took our time-Service couldn't have been better. It was chilly so we are inside, but the sidewalk seating could've lovely in summertime.

I have always loved local Italian restaurants. Mediterraneo is such a restaurant. It is unpretentious, but great tasty food. The buzz is locals eating out in their neighbourhood. If you find yourself on the upper east side, it's well worth a visit.

Mediterraneo is our favorite Italian restaurant in NYC!!! Amazing pasta, risotto, pizza, salad and home made iced tea and most importantly, great services! Squid ink risotto is one of a kind. Tomato source, olive oil, tiramisu, homemade iced tea,... Lots of great stuff. Pizzas are my kids' favorites. can't wait to dining at Mediterraneo again!

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
