Our daughter found out that the only place to get DeKoninck in USA was Markt. Got her dad a gc. One of our favorite restaurants in NY now....the food and service are amazing. The mussels....to die for! Our server, I'm sorry I can't remember his name, the first time was fabulous. Becca this time was equally as wonderful. She made... More

I have been enjoying Markt since it's meatpacking district days(before it morphed into an Apple Store). Although it's no longer as cavernous, it still packs a lot of mussel. :)The moules frites: steaming pots of succulent mussels and crunchy side of Belgian fries are a knockout. Some of the best onion soup in town and great paté maison, not to... More

My friend and I tried out this restaurant for the first time. The inside is cozy and the waiter was considerate to move the adjoining tables apart for more space. The food was delicious and very well seasoned. The French onion soup was so flavorful and the cheese melted in your mouth. The salmon and vegetables were perfectly cooked and... More

If you are looking for authentic Belgian Moules/Frites (Mussels and French Fries), Markt is a MUST! There are about 6 varieties of mussels (steamed in beer, white wine, provençal style, thai, etc). They also have an extensive selection of Belgian beers on draught. Friendly, efficient staff, and old world atmosphere make this a great a great choice!

Was looking to expand our dining experiences in the City for when we hit the theatre so we gave Markt a go. VERY glad we did! A couple of summers ago we spent a week in a canal barge in Belgium and our dinner at Markt was as close to our meals in Flanders as we have found since then!... More

Staff was very attentive. Did not have access to a phone to make reservations, however was able to connect with someone via FB to reserve a table. The service was great and food was delicious! Would certainly eat here again!

We live in this area and have been to this restaurant enough times (mainly out of pure convenience) to have a good assessment of it. The atmosphere is okay but the restaurant is very noisy. The food is average at best. I would waste me time.

Sorry you're not a bigger fan. We love our neighbors and we're committed to serving the best Belgian brasserie cuisine in New York. It is, often, boisterous at Markt for which we apologize. All the best-- More

Cold rainy day in January in NYC, this restaurant was recommended by Kleinfeld's. EXCELLENT recommendation!! Cozy, pleasant waitstaff, non-touristy, great food (mussels with wine) coffee served in a coffee press-really nice touches, and not 'break the bank'!

We been going to Markt since it was on 14th Street in the Meatpacking district, early 2000s? Lucky us when it moved closer to our neighborhood... Always, every time: great Belgian beer list, great mussels - one of the few places we will eat them - and also great skate, steak frites, meatballs, lobster bisque... Weekend brunch is very good... Thank you so much for the wonderful review. We love our "old" customers best! Hard to believe we've now been in our "new" location longer than we were on 14th Street. Happy to be in your neighborhood and hope to see you soon. All the best-- More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
