We've been going here for years and consider it the best Italian restaurant we have ever been too. And we have been to all the so-called new best places. They don't compare. First, the service is second to none. You feel at home the minute...you walk in. Then the place is old school all the way. The food, well you can't beat it anywhere. My go-to is the shrimp oreganata and the spaghetti bolognese. My wife always gets the caprese followed by there famous mushroom truffle ravioli. It's just about perfection. It is also the experience that makes this place special. From the cheeses, salami, zucchini, and the best bruschetta and bread selection you will ever have, to the Grappa shot at the end this is a memorable dining experience!More

The most exquisite food you will taste, from the classic NYC West 3rd location to Florida, Vegas, Long Island. Simply the best. Service is top rated.

The food is always delicious here but the prices are out of hand. Over $600 for dinner for four which included two pastas shared, an entree each, two desserts and seven cocktails. No wonder expansion didn’t work. Who else would pay the exorbitant prices? The...shrimp scampi wasn’t great but the Mishroom Ravioli was outstanding. The waiter was over the top and made us feel like tourists. He never came during our entree and we ordered one less drink as a result.More

First visit. Party of four. Although we had reservations we had 20-minute wait. We were probably the only "non regulars" that night. Everyone knew the maitre de, waiters, coat check lady, and bartender. Once seated service was good. Note "volume" is loud. We ordered cocktails...and were immediately bombarded by a lot of free appetizers. In hindsight we ordered too much as most entrees were only half finished. The wine list is large and all(?) Italian. Pretty much on the high side. You'd be lucky to find a decent bottle under $100 (we spent $110). We split a large portion of fried calamari to start. Entrees were riga Bolognese, black pasta, fish special, and buca Amatria Surprisingly some entrees were only in the high $20s but the sea special commanded $50. Too stuffed for dessert or coffee. Overall food is good and you will have a memorable meal. Clearly "old school, red gravy, Italian". Damages with tip was $400.More

Everything was amazing about this restaurant. The service, the pre- dinner food they bring you even before you look at a menu was wonderful. The service is top notch and the food was delicious. Will for sure be back here again.

I have been coming here for years and originally this was my favorite Italian restaurant in all of NYC.. key word WAS. I still love the porcini ravioli and truffle/champagne and the langostine, but it was better in the past. Service was so so and...waited an while after they brought the pre apps and apps for dinner. Always a bit pricey but service was less than and food was average. In the last was always a 10 and now not so much. I went to the location they had in Atlantic City and food was the same and believe it or not the service was better. Hope it picks up again as this was my favorite in all of NYC for Italian.More

The first impression was great. Staff that were super attentive and service minded. However, the service stopped after the first 15 minutes. During the actual meal no one came over unless it was to take our plate. It’s a pretty wide gap from what first...met us. We made a reservation based on the thanksgiving menu. After we were seated and placed the order we were made aware of that they served tiramisu for dessert. We asked about the pumpkin cheesecake, where the waiter just said no - there was tiramisu. The turkey was dry, had a lot of small bones, clumps of fat and cartilage. Seemed like leftovers. The mashed potatoes were exactly what it were described as - mashed potatoes. Tasteless. The sauce and the nuts were good though. The tiramisu was good, but not why we came there. We were hoping for a pumpkin dessert on thanksgiving. Immediately after the dessert the bill were placed on the table, without even asking for it.More

A good Italian restaurant with attentive service. While the food was good, we didn't feel that it had the fine touch that the high prices would indicate.

The Il Mulino downtown Manhattan location don't really have a bar to grab a drink. It is just a small area to wait for your table.
