Enter this place in Thompson St, and you'll only find a great food and nice service Japanese. Far from the fancy sushi places I'd like to go to while I'm in town, you'll discover an authentic Japanese restaurant filled with New Yorkers from the Village and homesick Japanese looking for home food. The sushis are breathtaking (!) just run to... More

Well, have to admit we live upstairs sometimes so we are partial. Portions are large and Ive never had a bad dish here. The specials are good and usually creative - at east to us non Japanese natives !

They have very good appetizer menus. Must try their kaki furrai if you like oyster. Location is within walking distance from spring subway station.

If you're looking for something classy and bougie, this is NOT the place! This is a casual ambiance with paper signage and no frills. It has the grit feel of the old traditional Village. However, it's the freshest, most delicious sushi and tofu buns around! Go early- I mean EARLY or be prepared to wait in line!

Small place with not a lot of seating. The menu had some familiar names such as california rolls and tuna tar tar along with some unfamiliar names. We ordered three rolls, sake, and the tuna appetizer and it was very good. The sushi melts in your mouth its so fresh!!

The fish was not good and inside my rolls was fish mush, instead of a little slice-- the rolls were extremely poorly made, even falling apart. Dark, unappealing interior. I doubt this is a real Japanese place

Yes, 15 years later there is still a line before they open up. Absolute amazing place that is consistent with the quality for tens of years, worth every bite. A must, tuna tar tar, or a roll, can't find the same quality even in Japan!

OK -- let's get one thing out of the way: this place is a dive. I've been coming here for 20 years, and the decor hasn't changed. But that's OK -- nobody stands for 30 min in line for ambience. You come because Tomoe has some of the best (if not *the* best) fish in the city. Generous cuts of... More

Got this place recommended by a friend. Be prepared to que and que more if you are more than 2. They don't take a group larger than 5. Chef is fantastic, food is 6* and i went just happy home. Thank you Tomoe

Neighbourhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
