Possibly the best (hamachi) ceviche ever--al dente texture, luscious sauce, onions and other flavoring fantastic. Really enjoyed the shrimp, and short rib/beef marrow tacos. Also the cheese/truffle quesadilla. Mescal and tequila cocktails out of this world. Prices up there too, but worth it. Also lovely service and delightful atmosphere.

Just returned from dinner with 2 long term friends. Rafael the manager treated us like special guests. Selection of tacos-one did-one shrimp- and 1 entree was plenty. Guacamole perfect

We were in NYC for a book fair and wanted a nearby restaurant for dinner. How fortunate we were to have selected Toloache! The food was very good. We had the trio cerviche and it was delicious especially the fluke. We followed that by the lobster tacos and pork carnitas tacos, equally well prepared and finished off our meal with... More

The Toloache in the theater district is a loud, raucous, place but the version on theUpperEast Side is quiet, pretty, and fun. The selections are interesting, like corn fungus and a variety of quesadillas. They do try to upsell the rather ordinary guacamole. There's a bar (TVset on soccer matches) up front but a nice quiet room behind. Portions are a bit... More

The place has a nice bar and general vibe. Food and service were great! We had a rsvp and it filled up quick so I would recommend getting one. Looking forward to visiting in the summer so we can check out the patio!

They make some really good tacos here and have Brussels sprouts sautéed with bacon that is off the scale. A neighborhood place we go occasionally but not on Friday or Saturday nights when they are crazed. The noise levels are incredible . We find that lately delivery is the way to go but still their prices are high for the... More

Great local place for mexican. Bartenders are great, I love sitting at the bar with a margarita and having dinner there. Its as all local great places - loud, busy and has a good atmosphere. Some of the things I like to order are the tuna tacos, the guac (their medium is my version of mild), the mushroom quesadilla and... More

Went for Sunday brunch. Had a great time. We were the first to arrive as that was the only time avail on the booking! Seated promptly and menus were short but good. Chicken tacos were yummy still taste the fresh corn on them. Had a cocktail - the one with maestro dobel was really good. Would definitely visit again. Loved... More

This place has some wonderful dishes like Brussels sprouts fried with bacon , exciting spicy Mexican fare, pozole and kosher food for passover. The place needs reservations since it so popular and is a bit noisy and crowded so take out is a good option. Prices run high for the expertly prepared dishes and you will enjoy the richness of... Wonderful lunch at Toloache. Worth a trip to this spot any day. Very interesting dishes, spiced in creative ways - delicious! Not the standard mexican fare. Everyone in our party loved their lunch. Service was very friendly, efficient and helpful with recommendations. There were several families with young children, all having a good time when we were there, so seems... More

Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina's creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
