We had a team event here for about 25-30 people. That number of people was a little tight for the upstairs area (I think they had said 40 was the max, which I couldn't really imagine as it would get a little claustrophobic). Walking up, it would be a little hard to find unless you locate it beforehand on google... More

I don't really drink much so I cannot comment on the vast selection of tequilas, but the short menu of Mexican food is interesting and the food we had looked and tasted great. I visited twice in a year and it didn't disappoint.

Exterior is all black and you might not notice it unless you know the address. Went for an after dinner drink on a Monday night. Extensive cocktail list and server was excellent at describing drinks and recommendations. Interior is cool, day of the dead dolls in cabinets by some tables. Didn't go upstairs. Cocktails are $15. Treat yo self.

I frequented mayahuel 7 years ago for about 4 years and just loved to stop in and say hello to rob & Adam the bartenders slinging mescal and tequila in this wahackan/ Mexican fusion speakeasy bar in the east village Manhattan. It's like stepping in off the streets of NY into a hidden old wood door and you in a... More

My girlfriend started off the evening by sitting down at the table and proceeding to tell me that she doesn't like places like this (trendy). By the end of the evening, she said that she would be begging me to come back here again. If that doesn't sell you on this place, well, let me tell you more. The food... More

My girlfriend, a friend and I went here on a Saturday night for drinks, food, and catching up. The place can easily be unnoticed as it doesn't have a name outside, which gives a local feel to it. Inside, the place is lightly dimmed, with colorful ceramic walls and dark wood beams holding the tile roof. The noise level is... More

I have not had better cocktails, and I have had too many to remember, than I have been served here. It gets busy and its trendy but honestly I have not seen the quality waver much since opening. I still think these are the best cocktails in manhattan and always the apps are creative and delish

Wandered the area to find a place to eat and found this lovely gem. The food was over the top salty, but the cocktails were divine. The best, most inventive cocktails I've ever had in my life. Decor was gothic mexican….perfect. What a lucky find for us. You have to go.

Cocktails are always solid. Personality of the bartender varies. Go often. Have sat at bat and tables. Great food to split and drinks are solid. Many options to choose from but one must like tequila or mescal. Luckily they are my favorite liqueurs. Cool spot. Definitely worth the stop in for a drink or more of you are in the... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
