When we arrived at a pawn shop I thought we were at the wrong place for dinner. What a cool surprise inside. It trendy and unique. Almost felt like we were celebrities. We had a set menu of all these different courses to try and each one was fantastic. I really loved the crispy fish tacos and braised short ribs... More

We went to Beauty and Essex with family and friends at "prime time" on a Saturday night. Entrance through a "pawn shop" storefront (speakeasy style) leads you to a large, well appointed bar and dining area. Pink champagne at the ladies room was a clever touch and a fine gesture of hospitality! While we were seated nearly an hour after... More

I was recommended this restaurant by a good friend & I am so happy I went! It is a very unique experience - you enter through a pawn shop before opening a door to a stylish restaurant hidden in the back. The service is on point - our waiter was attentive & helpful throughout the meal. I recommend the tomato... More

We had a family occasion and reserved a table for 14. The food was top notch (almost Michelin star) and the service was fantastic. I would have no hesitation doing another event there.

Great food, good prices and really pleasant service. You have to enter through a pawn shop but the restaurant door is at the back and really lovely inside. Just as good as the Stanton social and there's pink champagne in the girls loos on offer!

Pass thru the doors of a functioning pawn shop and you'll find yourself in the richly decorated Beauty & Essex. I've found myself here periodically for birthdays and to bring visitors for the past several years, and it's consistently been a good experience. + Res is a must, and the kitchen stays open late. On this most recent visit, we... More

By the moment you approached this place, you are taken into another world. It looks like nothing from the street, but don't be fooled and don't turn away......absolutely superbe, walk in and enjoy! We actually let our waiter pick our dishes for us, and he did a fantastic job....the grill cheese appetizer was not what we expected and was delicious... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
