We had high hopes for this place but the dishes were small, the food was mediocre and prices were high. I spent $150 on lunch for three and we walked out hungry. The lobster paella was small burnt and a bad choice.

I have not been back to Socarrat for a while and saw that it was on restaurant week so I thought I would give it a try. My reservation was for 3, but I wound up getting there quite early. The manager Andres was quite accommodating and we only waited about 20 minutes for a table towards the back of... More

My husband just happened to walk by Socarrat Paella Bar one day and since he knows how much I like Spanish food, he suggested it for an evening out with friends in NYC. What a great find that was! I liked the cozy atmosphere of the place right from the start. Our waitress was incredibly nice and friendly; she was... More

We happen to go to Socarrat on a Saturday night fairly early with no reservation. We waited only a short while as we were quite lucky as this place got very crowded. We all had the various specials and some delicious wine with dinner. Reasonable prices, excellent service.

We ate in this restaurant on a busy night. Food was beautifully prepared, the wine delicious, The service spot on. The prices are reasonable, I was just making a reservation. Quite a busy popular place.

We had high hopes for this restaurant, as we both really like paella. The 2 tapas dishes (octopus and a pear salad) were quite tasty, and the pinot noir was excellent. However, the seafood paella was disappointing--not a lot of taste and a bit undercooked. We've had better paella in Spain and, believe it or not, even in Bangkok. And... More

We had a late dinner on a Monday night. Everything was excellent , quiet good vibe , food was great and we had an excellent service as well. Half prices on bottles of wine are a good and smart idea. Paellas are excellent...The whole night was very good. Highly recommended !

Visited this attractive lively little restaurant a few weeks ago, wanting a change from the oversize plates of stodge so plentiful in New York. We were in the states for two weeks and these were probably the tastiest dishes we had. Delightful service too. We knew it wasn't going to be cheap but got three good sized tapas and a... More

Had a wonderful dinner here last week with some friends. The tapas were good- with the exception of the zucchini. Who the hell ordered that anyway? But the croquettes and sprouts were yummy. We did ONE paella for the 4 of us and it was plenty. The waiter wisely advised on this and he was correct. We did the seafood... More

Socarrat Nolita's ambience denotes feelings of warmth, comfort and hospitality. Building on its sister restaurant's identity as a small, intimate space comprised primarily of one large communal table, the restaurant also offers banquette, bar and table seating.

Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.

Socarrat Nolita also offers several tapas, wines by the glass, Spanish desserts, and sangria.

Staying in Nolita

Neighbourhood Profile
Despite being just off of busy Houston Street, Nolita maintains a low-key vibe that makes it a pleasant retreat in the heart of lower Manhattan. Short for “North of Little Italy,” Nolita was once considered to be part of Little Italy. Today, the neighbourhood is popular with young fashionistas popping in and out of the chic independent boutiques that line Mulberry, Mott and Elizabeth Streets. In addition to shopping, there are cozy restaurants and sidewalk cafes serving everything from new-school Italian food to the world-famous cronuts. While small in size (Nolita stretches just a few blocks in each direction), it’s a great neighbourhood to spend an afternoon people watching, window-shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat.
