Jacques 1534 is a small local eatery with a an old time 1800's (?) antique bar. The ambience to me had an old European feel with cracked plaster walls, antique reproduction pictures and fixtures. There are booths and tables. Some local NY'ers were hanging out at the bar enjoying themselves which gave the place a warm neighborly and jovial feeling.... More

We just decide to pop in because we were hungry and our first choice was too crowded. The steak and eggs was very good and I think fairly priced. Service was excellent.

Nice space.... but out of draft beer, the entire (extensive) wine list was down to 3 varieties.... half the menu was off.... the food we did have ... mussels and burgers) was top notch - really good.... but felt as it its on the way out

Great atmosphere, but there is better cocktail places less than a block away and for cheaper. The outside tables and open front make it a great hangout and date spot though.

The moules marinieres was plentiful and tasty. The Cuban sandwich was also quite good but the merguez sandwich had much more egg than merguez sausage. The setting is typical French bistro and the service was efficient

Stopped at this cool looking cafe in SoHo for a drink and a snack. Loved the watermelon & feta salad. Good cocktails. Very good service. Worth a stop.

My husband and I love to eat here on Thursday nights for "surprise date night." As in, we suddenly realize we don't have some other obligation, so let's go to our favorite French place on Prince Street! Most recently we stopped in and were greeted by a staff member who recognized us and sat us at our favorite table. I... More

We had lunch on a freezing day in February. The place was bustling. The food and condiments are local and fresh. The service lovely. Next time in NY hopefully in the summer I will return.

The food at Jacques was barely edible. Waiters were rude and the owner Jacques, was offensive at best. Stay away...

Staying in Nolita

Neighbourhood Profile
Nolita
Despite being just off of busy Houston Street, Nolita maintains a low-key vibe that makes it a pleasant retreat in the heart of lower Manhattan. Short for “North of Little Italy,” Nolita was once considered to be part of Little Italy. Today, the neighbourhood is popular with young fashionistas popping in and out of the chic independent boutiques that line Mulberry, Mott and Elizabeth Streets. In addition to shopping, there are cozy restaurants and sidewalk cafes serving everything from new-school Italian food to the world-famous cronuts. While small in size (Nolita stretches just a few blocks in each direction), it’s a great neighbourhood to spend an afternoon people watching, window-shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat.
