We really enjoyed how inventive the food and drinks were. Had the broccoli dogs - so good! We shared the brussel sprout tacos, I have never enjoyed them until I tried them at Dirt Candy. Not to be missed as a treat for vegetarians looking for something different.

Its a difficult review as i'm not vegetarian and i didn't really enjoy any of the food, however my wife who is vegetarian absolutely loved the food and the restaurant. I really enjoyed my evening which says a lot about the place, and the staff who were very knowledgable and friendly. Oddly even though i didn't enjoy the food, i... More

Great deal for only $30 per person. Started with a Jealous Mary (green tomato juice) and a Bloody Carrie (grilled carrot juice and Mezcal) One of us had a squash biscuit with pumpkin butter and red pepper jam the other had chocolate onion croissant which is more like rugelah than a croissant. Dark chocolate and a mild onion flavor. It... More

Was thrilled to finally plan a NY trip with enough lead time to secure a brunch res at DC. Spectacular food, kind and cheerful staff, notably excellent cappuccino. Highly recommend everything we tried: tempura poached eggs, chocolate-onion croissants, corn french toast, layered omelette. Am not usually tempted by restaurant cookbooks, but this one is something very special--entertaining as a read... More

We were excited to finally go to Dirt Candy having read a lot about it. We were there for brunch--maybe dinner would have been a better option. The one outstanding item was the squash biscuit. The tofu sandwich was okay, not wonderful. The waffle with egg and cheese was bland and soggy. And it looked awful--bright orange and yellow with... More

Arrived at opening time for brunch, and already lively. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Emily, our server was so lovely, and we had a Canada conversation. We mainly came because the chef, owner is a Toronto woman, and I hoped to say hello to a fellow Torontonian. Alas, she was not in that day. Wonderful service and... More

I have been to most of the vegetarian and vegan restaurants in New York and have been living that food lifestyle for over 30 years but the menu at Dirt Candy is unique. It is not unusual to find vegan takes on omnivore food but here they take it to a new level of surprise. Carrot sliders on carrot buns,... More

5 star service from the moment you walk in. I also want to point out this is a no tipping restaurant; this has an incredibly positive effect on all of the staff. Innovative and exceptionally fresh food. Dirt candy is a very interesting place to take anyone for a meal, but particularly someone who has not thought much of a... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
