Beware of the cocktails, they're potent, addictive and will have you on the floor!! Hugely enjoyable evening with some work colleagues here after a full on day. Fab service, fab setting, this will long be a favorite drinking location in New York now.

My wife and I ducked into the Carlyle for a cocktail at the famed Carlyle Bar--an upper East 70's must for the society crowd, and mere mortals like ourselves as well. Fabulous piano, dark and very romantic, white dinner jacketed waiter--an ultimate NYC experience.

You are in the heart of sophisticated New York. Stay as long as you want. Order a cocktail and nibble on the nuts (they'll bring 2nds or 3rd's if you ask). If you check the night times you can time your visit to hear the pianist, always top draw.

We had a lovely dinner at Bemelmans Bar last week after spending several hours at a wonderful exhibit of Greek art downtown. The champagne was cold and piercing, and the nuts, crackers and chips -- all standard issue here -- enhanced the champagne perfectly. The oysters were absolutely perfect this night -- sometimes they are a bit off but not... More

What a wonderful place for a cocktail. You feel like you've been thrown back in time, or at least on the set of "Mad Men." Live jazz, attentive service, and great people watching. When you tire of people-watching, the murals are equally entertaining.

The drawings on the walls are charming, the cocktails are good and life seems more refined here. Expensive but you get what you pay for. I prefer it in the afternoon when it is less crowded.

Stopped in late afternoon after having wanted to see the paintings on the walls for years. It is not in a location I frequent. Classy bar that gets packed despite not being in a high work area. Prices are fairly high even in non live entertainment hours but are very good and come with delicious mixed nuts.

Really nice complement of snacks, great dessers (we had the cheesecake), friendly jazz performance, nice crowd split between older groups and youngster couples.

A great place to relax after a day in the city. It's more than a bar, it's an experience. One of those places on your world bar list to visit like the Ritz or Harry's...

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
