We were in San Diego for a very large convention and the Gaslight area restaurants were all exceedingly busy. I walked in the afternoon to make an evening reservation. The hostess (who is the owner) was patient and gracious in helping me choose a quiet table, deciding on the front patio. The food was authentic, fresh and fabulous. We look... More

Sushi was good and probably would have been better with more explanation. Menu very limited and service staff couldn't offer much guidance. Prices were very fair though and everything was delicious.

Delicious! The staff was very friendly. The atmosphere is like youd expect in a tiny Japanes restaurant: relaxed, chilled, quiet. Thats good! The food was made in front if us and tasted delicious. Try the edamame. They have only two tables outside.

We had a great experience at Taka with the attention and food. We had the seaweed salad which was different where 4 different types of seaweed were presented. The shrimp tempura was light and non greasy. The tuna sashimi, the spicy tuna and the absolute best was the "special Barrera" (6pc) $18.00, a very unique take on sushi with the... More

Went fur sushi and saw the seasonal specialty of Live Shrimp. Asked our server to explain and yes it is what he says! Tot eat the tail sashimi style and then they deep fry the heads! It was AMAZING! The shrimp was sweet and tender the heads crunchy and salty. The oyster on the half shell appetizer was prepared uniquely... More

Every time we visit San Diego we make a point of eating at Taka. The quality of the sushi and sashimi is outstanding in our view and there are always interesting specials available. It's great fun to sit at the bar and watch the sushi masters at work! It's a highlight of our visits to the city and the quality... More

People rave about Sushi Ota and I have been to both and the sushi bar at Taka beats it hands down. This beats my Nobu experience in NY and LA AT a quarter of the price. The live prawns with fried head is an experience to have. The sushi melts in your mouth. This is my 3rd visit here and... More

Enjoyed sashimi, nigiri, rolls, and sake with colleagues. We had an early reservations (6:30) and it was almost empty. Stayed for 2 hours and it was completely full with a line at the door when we left. All food was fresh and delicious. The maguro and hamachi sashimis were the real standouts. Easy to recommend.
