They make a great breakfast and specialize in fabulous waffles, but the lunch sandwich selection is also very good.

Made a couple of breakfast visits here on this trip to San Diego but this time, I was a little disappointed. Plastic sausages, over medium eggs with too much of the white remaining uncooked & the potatoes, though nicely browned on the outside, were a little undercooked on the inside. Coffee that was hot & wet but otherwise unremarkable. Despite... More

Read about Bobby Flay saying the french toast was best ever so thought I woud check it out. Since the peanut butter banana french toast was to many $ for my budget I opted for the traditional instead. Waitress was nice enough but took at least 20 minutes before my order arrived. Refilled my water several times not like the... More

Very sorry to hear that you did not care for the French Toast. I will admit it is one of our less-special items on the menu... on the menu for kids mostly due to it's basic-ness. I will check into your syrup comments asap. I do wish you would have said that it was not to your liking, whenever someone... More

We were staying at a local hotel and walked here for breakfast. Had great food with very friendly service. The locals eat here so you know it's good! I wanted pancakes because they smelled so good but opted for eggs, potatoes and bacon. You won't be disappointed here.

A cornmeal blueberry waffle with real maple syrup…the crunch and texture of the cornmeal, the tang of the blueberries, the sweetness of the maple syrup, all wonderfully complimented with some of the finest coffee I have enjoyed. Do not miss this place if you are a breakfast lover.

Great place overall. Great food, friendly service with decent portions at a fair price Ordered Joe's special, excellent frittata. Would not change a thing. Two thumbs up!

Lots of variety and generous portions! I had the pecan waffle with maple syrup which was very tasty. They even modified one of the dishes to suit a vegetarian member of our party.

We had a 20 minute wait on a Thursday morning in January but it was well worth it. Even with the panhandlers somewhat hassling everyone in line. THe service was fast and friendly. Huevos rancheros were delicious with obviously homemade salsa; strawberry shortcake pancakes were excellent and was the Banana french toast. Only problem was the coffee. Burnt-tasting and hard... Cafe 222 has been the local dining institution for over 20-years in San Diego.
This quirky-corner eatery has become famous from it's many appearances on the
Food Network and for the owner who from time-to-time can be found wearing a waffle on her head.

This shoebox-size of a restaurant has plenty of seating, offers indoor, street side patio dining as well as an upper garden patio area. Dogs and kids are welcome with well-behaved parents.

Reservations are not accepted but if there is a wait to get in it moves quickly and the staff
passes out banana bread and coffee to those in line to make the wait more pleasant.
