Modern was a delight on a cold day. Go right in and you will will enjoy a little sit down and a relaxing coffee and pastry. Fantastic.

Go here for cannoli and ricotta pie. Simple the best! Mike's is great, but IMHO Modern is better. Eat in with freshly made coffee drinks or something from the bar, or take home to family and friends.

Modern Pastry was on my list as a must try stop while visiting Boston. I wasn’t disappointed. The pistachio cannoli filled with ricotta was delicious. It was well balanced in flavor not being too sweet and loaded with pistachio pieces at either end. The large...More

Lovely cafe, very European style. Tables to sit down + restrooms downstairs + not expensive. It's where the locals go. I always order a large Lobster tail, which is a crusty cream-filled pastry. It's enormous, so 1 pastry for 4 people is fine. Coffee is...More

This charming shop is full of good dessert and luscious coffee. In the last few years they have been able to expand and you can now sit at a table to enjoy you chosen goodies. I recommend trying a piece of their Torrone, my favorite...More

Stopped in while in Boston this week and was pleased with the selection. I brought some things home or family and they haven't eaten them yet, so no verdict there. I will say that the woman who helped my friend was pretty rude, but the...More

We came here after dinner (having also been to Mike’s in the past, to compare the two). We loved Modern. All the classic Italian desserts, cannolis, tarts, cupcakes, and cookies. There’s also an area to sit down and its not total insanity in there like...More

Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like
being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and
Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants,
bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part
in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or
Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma
sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s
home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church
