The French onion soup is phenomenal. The shrimp polenta. The flat bread. The blackened cod. All fantastic. The atmosphere is cool and fun and calm. Great music. Great lightening. Alcohol. We come here twice a week (dinner) and love this place! And perfect for business meetings.

This place did not meet expectations. The location is nice, the ambiance is very welcoming, but the food is just a bore. Had the chicken and mushroom risotto, very bland and some of the chicken pieces were undercooked with no seasoning. The baked Alaska was just awful, they do not know how to make it. I would not come back.

The food here is terrible. We ordered 2 appetizers and 3 other dishes. Not one was good. The clam chowder had no flavor, the mustard chicken was like eating a spoonful of hot mustard, the escargot burnt, and the endive salad unexciting. The tuna tartare tasted like soap. Our server was excellent. Too noisy.

Central Bistro is in the Downtown Crossing area of Boston, across from Macy's and a five minute walk to the Boston Opera House and the Paramount. The restaurant is on the second floor, nicely decorated, and has table and booth seating. I was pleased that it was quiet. The service was excellent with friendly servers who were especially attentive. The... More

In Boston for family trip and found this restaurant for dinner on open table. Had reasonable reviews and was close to hotel. When we arrived, restaurant was about 60 percent full. We were seated and ignored for about twenty minutes. No water service until we tracked down the hostess. When our waitress arrived, we got apology number one. She took... More

I was here for a private party in the back room - which I didn't know they had when I walked in...I was just looking around the bar area like a fool! I really liked the atmosphere and feel like it would be a great date spot. The apps that I tried were good and the bartender was friendly.

Tucked above the bustle of Downtown Crossing on the second floor, Central Bistro is my go-to place for a reasonably priced business lunch in this neighborhood. The omelets are always a good choice as is the steak frites. The service is consistently top-notch. Ask for a window seat.

We had a difficult time locating this eatery because U need to press a button for the entrance to the building where the restaurant is located. Upon arrival, worth the ambiguity;-). Great ambiance and the dinning experience was so LA..great!

This restaurant is located conveniently right above the Downtown Crossing T-station and hidden inside the landmark 101 Arch building. The place is opposite to the shopping center Macy’s and other surrounding shops as well. So it makes it incredibly convenient to have drinks or dinner. I have been meeting up my friends here many times now. The service is prompt.... More

Stopped in on a girls' weekend when we needed a cool break from walking the freedom trail. It was a pleasant surprise of great appetizers and refreshing cocktails.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
