We stepped into Metropolis post-theater for dinner on a rainy weeknight half an hour before their stated closing time. The staff was 100% welcoming, with no sign of aggravation or attitude at our lousy timing. Nothing was rushed, the food was terrific, and the place is super charming. Would be a great date spot. They had just unveiled the spring... More

We ate here on a rainy and stormy evening in April to celebrate our anniversary. The staff and ambience were welcoming, the wine wonderful and our dishes (the duck, the rigatoni) absolutely outstanding. This place is a perfect intimate eatery with a touch of class and excellent value. Visit if you can. If it takes extra effort- do it.

We were invited to a late-starting event downtown and decided on dinner first. Metropolis Cafe has been on our list of South End places to try and when I saw that a preferred time was available (via Open Table) we made a reservation. Parking can be difficult to find in the area and the one valet stand in the neighborhood... More

This place was amazing, I went here with a group of friends for a nice dinner and it did not upset. It would also be perfect for a date due to its calm, quiet atmosphere. I'd recommend the veal scallopini it was amazing.

So good. Everything I've had for brunch at Metropolis has been perfect. When I lived near by, I was there most every Sunday. All these years later, it's a bi-annual visit. Coming here makes me love and miss Boston all the more.

Excellent brunch, my favorite in Boston. Small space, uniquely and carefully decorated. Food reflects the thought that went into that design,

This is a true gem in the South End! Out service, cocktails and food were gret across the board. Rock Shrimp risotto-outstanding. Highly recommend this spot. It is very small so plan ahead.

The Metropolis is small but has a stylish interior. It was difficult to book as it is a popular spot. The two of us started by sharing a Kale and Brussel Caesar which was interesting, but not particularly exciting. We followed this with risottos, one chicken and one shrimp and pork belly. Both were very tasty. The service was friendly... More

This neighborhood cafe was recommended to me by the bartender at my hotel so I ventured there with my daughter for Sunday brunch and was not disappointed. There was a 20-30 wait at 11:30 due to its popularity shortened by a willingness to sit at the bar. The only negative to this place was its size. With it being a... More

Staying in South End

Neighbourhood Profile
South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.
