The mochi here is one of the best I have ever had. You can tell that these are homemade because of how soft the mochi is. I tried the blueberry mochi and I love the contrast between the tartness and the sweetness. I'm especially impress with the amount of fillings that is inside the mochi. The outer layer of the... Maybe i just didn't get the right one. I'm not even sure which flavor it was but it was green (I'm guessing green tea?) and had some brown (I'm guessing red bean?) filling inside. I did go half an hour before closing though, so maybe all of the good ones were gone. The consistency of the mochi was a little... More

This is a historic mochi store and breakfast spot with at least half a dozen fresh mochi every day, and also one of the few spots left in Japantown that sells Hawaiian cookies. They also have great donuts they make each morning.

This little store and coffee shop is definitely filled with locals. They make the traditional Mochi but also have strawberry, Mango and blueberry. The must have is the blueberry. Worth a trip every time I'm in Japantown.

If you like or want to try traditional style manju (a Japanese dessert), you must stop here. It's a quaint diner with a bar top place to sit to eat American style food and on the left is the counter to buy the delicacies. I've been to Japan and tried the manju all throughout Japan and remember when my great-auntie... More

I went there twice during my trip and absolutely adored the atmosphere and authentic japanese goodness... the fried red bean doughnut was my favourite and was the reason i went back a second time but i just sampled a bunch of random items and was all delicious :-) and good value

Initially, we passed by this bakery café when we started our walk around this area. We spent about 2+ hours in Japantown browsing, shopping and having lunch. The bakery café is located at the corner of Sutter and Buchanan (Osaka Way) Streets. One side of the business is the bakery and the other side a small sit down counter style... More

I have been coming to Benkyodo for many, many years. They still make the best varieties of Japanese manju (Japanese pastry) made with rice or flour pastry, chestnuts, red beans, or white beans. This may sound strange, but the flavors are very subtle. The preparations are not, overly sweet. The pastries, each have a distinct flavor and 'memory' for many... More
