Great old building Gives the restaurant and cozy urban feel. We ordered a pizza that came with a selection of antipasto items on the side for the toppings. It was a little odd and we not order it again, but we misunderstood the waitress. I would definitely give it another try because the food looked wonderful but we just mis... More

Cafe is nice with lots of memorabilia around. The menu is limited from my experiences in NY. Lots of pizza and calzone choices at $20 a plate or more. One glass of wine, steak entree, a tea, and cannoli with tip $100. Waiter Luke was great. Kinda looked like Paul Newman!

Just happened to be in town for Chinese New Year parade and found this location was on part of the route. It worked out perfectly! Staff was very welcoming and accommodating to work us in along with their existing reservations. Great food and drinks. Excellent location!

I first stopped at Cafe Zoetrope on business about 5 years ago and had the pleasure of returning recently as well. This is a very good restaurant in many respects, but it also has a number of subjective plusses that make it an excellent restaurant in my book. First, this is an iconic building on Columbus street. It's kind of... More

We had dinner here. Good Italian food in Francis Ford Coppola's restaurant. The walls are covered in memorabilia and photographs. The food was delicious, some specials and a variety of pastas and pizzas. Fresh good tasty food.

After walking and walking in SF and Marin we wanted a cozy warm dinner with good wine. This was perfect. Food and wine were really good. Vibe was low key. A place where you can finish your glass of wine and talk.

Had lunch before the Chinese New Year Parade. Sat at a sidewalk table on the first sunny day SF has had in quite awhile, so pleasant! We had the spinach frittata and the sausage frittata, both excellent. The server recommended the Tiramisu for dessert, it was also excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Came for drinks no food, been here many times before and great staff. This time barman refused to make us Bloody Mary's because it was after 3pm. Only 2 people in the bar and he told us we couldn't have them because you don't drink Bloody Mary's after 3pm. Saving grace was waiter who put him in his place and... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
