Recommended to us by a tour guide at Coit Tower. Very clean and unassuming interior at the corner of Broadway and Columbus. To make it easy we ordered the Combination B dinner @ $17.50 per person that included the following: won ton soup, spring rolls, shrimp fried rice, sesame chicken, mooshu pork, steak with veggies, and shrimp in lobster sauce. The... More

It was Saturday night and the rain was coming down in San Francisco. Relatives came in far and wide. So we all head for New Sun Hong Kong Restaurant at 606 Broadway Street. Its around the corner from "Stinking Rose Restaurant!" We had over twenty people including a few toddlers. Two large dinner tables were available and the servers were... More

We took a cab from our Hotel @ Fisherman's Wharf and asked the cab driver, who was Asian, if he could recommend somewhere good to eat in Chinatown. He said he knew just the place. He stopped to let us out and said "Oh it looks like it's closed" and drove off !! We were somewhere in the middle of... More

At crossing of Grant and Columbus stands this yummy place. HK style noodles and Chinese food. The prices tend to be a bit much for Chinese food, but it's good food. The place can be a little cleaner but it is what it is.... If you ask for the noodle menu you can get a nice bowl of yummy from... More

Heading back to our motel after a night of barhopping, noodles were exactly what I needed, and New Sun didn't disappoint! My husband isn't a big Chinese food fan, so he went looking for his own late-night snack, while I ordered from New Sun. The service was quick and the food was delicious! I even went back a couple days... More

It was a welcome stop after a long walk and it is pretty authentic. If we could go 3.5, we would. Good value for $$ and a solid Chinese but not mind blowing.

I went there for lunch. When you arrive they put a complimentary pot of traditional tea on your table, which is very easy to drink (I finished the whole pot!). The lunchtime menu had a number of "xyz on rice" dishes for under $10. I ordered chicken dumplings and the kung po on rice. When the kung po on rice... More

There are plenty of other places in Chinatown to get authentic food. Service is a joke! Prices are high.

We found it just by walking around the neighborhood. A great authentic experience. The pork buns were my favorite. Also tried the sesame balls and pan fried noodles. There was a ton of food and was very inexpensive.

We stumbled into this place coming from a Chinatown pub crawl. It reminded me of those local restaurants in Hong Kong that one goes to for a feed after a long night at the bars. Simple chinese food that hits the spot and settles your stomach. The fried rice was surprisingly tasty. Just stick to the basics and you can't... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
