We got the eggplant parmesan, which was good but the lasagna my husband ordered was heavenly. Couldn't have asked for a better plate. The sour dough bread that they serve you when first sit down was so good, great flavor. The staff was professional but nice and helpful with our choices. Very busy at least a 30-45 minute wait. Parking... More

Veal Scaloppini with Rigatoni in the best anywhere in the USA. Anytime I visit SF fro Sacrament, Little Joe's is a must for dinner. He used to have 3 or 4 locations with the original location in the heart of Little Italy, City Government rules and regulations and cost of doing business in downtown SF put him out of business... This restaurant is closed. It was open for about 40 years, and had some of the best Italian food I've ever had. Now, the website points to a place called "Little Joe's Pizzeria." It's not the same thing. There are a lot of restaurants called "Joe's" in the bay area. There is a long history behind that, but they aren't... More

I went there for the first time in 1981 and there was a line out the door. I do not go there much anymore for reasons unrelated to the food. I went recently and was pleased to see you get the same value reflecting that SF is a city that offers solid value for the mid range customer.

Myself and my girlfriend ate here after a lone trip from Ireland and in need of a quick bite. A very basic simple layout with a few TV's with Hockey and Basketball on gave a laid back atmosphere. We got a slice of peperoni pizza each and a portion of garlic bread. Prices were quite cheap and to be honest... More

Great food, great bread, and good service. I was surprised to see the meals were sill reasonably priced (average dinner $18, $10 for a burger). We took my father in law, a real Italian from NY. He loved it!

We had been dining at Little Joe's since 1971.... at its original location on Broadway, then Van Ness, 5th Street and now, on Market. The seafood stew was still great. But both the wine and beer selections were sadly disappointing. We had tiramisu for dessert, both the middle and bottom layers of teh tiramisu were dry and stale. The tiramisu... More

The address given on Trip Advisor for Little Joe Baby Joe is incorrect. That address is many years old. Since then Franco has moved to SOMA and now has a new location at 85 Fifth St. (at Market). It isn't in the greatest area of town, but I would not consider it unsafe. You can get off the Muni at... More

If there were a 0 star it would be more appropriate. The waitress saw us standing at the door 5 minutes before showing us a table. The bread was stale and that should have been the sign to leave. On the other hand it made great crutons for salad. I got the Veal Parm and the Spaghetti with meat sauce.... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
