It's old school. Waiters in tuxedos. Heavily breaded everything. Tartar and cocktail. To be honest, I didn't know what we were getting in to - as we are not locals. I would have gone with something more modern and creative, as far as flavors and...More

Food was nothing spectacular but good and we enjoyed it. Portion was good. We had excellent service. It has the old restaurant ambiance which was cool. Very pricey.

One can come to be seen or hide in a booth or a private room. I haven't tried the patio, but I bet it is lovely on weekends. Thank heavens no loud obnoxious music. Food is good, of course. Woody is a fine manager.

Great place....old school San Francisco.... I was here for a work dinner and had the Cioppino.... hands down the best I have had. Great selection of local Beer and Wine, great bread and salad offerings to start the meal! The ambiance is cozy, comfortable and...More

Reminds me of old New York SoHo. The service was good and food excellent. The dessert was a killer. Much too good.

I thought just walking into Sam's was a magical step backwards in time, but to be seated in the tiny, wood-walled booth with an optional curtain to close for complete privacy was extraordinary. Loved the detailed history of the restaurant printed on the menu, including...More

Up until our last five minutes at Sam's we were having a very good time. The restaurant is historical and we found the food solidly ok - not great, but above average. Then came the check. Our server who had been friendly up to this...More

First the jackhammer outside the front wall did nothing for the ambience. Once we moved it was better. It’s an old style restaurant with booths. The shrimp cocktail was full of small shrimps but was very good. The blue nosed bass was grilled and good...More

The concierge at the Taj recommended this restaurant on our last night with our family and it did not disappoint. Excellent seafood. Be sure to ask for one of the booths that are not visible from the entrance to the restaurant. Our waiter was great,...More

I contacted this place in anticipation of possibly eating there. Was instructed via phone by the host to send an email. Here was the reply (in part) from the manager: “Celiac isn’t transferable like cross contamination with peanuts or a vegan kitchen where grills must...More

Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but
can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s
version of Wall Street. The rush of business people
make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of
life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the
narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of
historic and contemporary architecture, including the
iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours,

It's cramped for large parties. I would say it's not kid friendly. It's a bit stuffy. Very much oriented for business lunches
