Love the location and the restaurant but the oysters were super small, the mushroom risotto while good wasn't fabulous. The other two diners ate meat and said it was just ok. I am sure with a little bit of work the food could be excellent.

We picked this restaurant due to the fact that their kitchen is open later than many other restaurants in the vicinity. The food was beyond my expectations and the service was excellent. It is not cheap but you are going to end up paying more...More

Stayed in the Frances Drake hotel, Scala's was down stairs on the ground level so nice and handy. Service was excellent along with knowledgeable staff. And of the food of course was great, set in a Bistro environment. Food great, service good, happy to recommend

The food here is top notch Italian and the wine list good. We were early and were seated but felt we needed more time between courses as the serves are very generous Would go back but would ask them to slow down

This place is more visited by locals - thank goodness. It was quiet and peaceful with a relatively nice environment. They had a limited food menu during lunch hours, and they had food that wasn't fried or battered. The service was efficient and professional. It's...More

We had a great meal here. What a gem near Union Square. Our server, Sarah, had wonderful recommendations, and steered us to a fine Italian wine selection. Even though we ordered too much food to finish, the food was great.More

Scala's Chocolate Boudino was so good I went back another night for more. I also had an egg white omelette containing roasted cauliflower, gold and red cherry tomatoes cooked softly, and sautéed spinach. Accompanying that was fresh fruit of blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, and pineapple....More

We are visiting from Boston and wanted good Italian- Scala's did not disappoint. Veal dish superb and pasta was excellent. We had our grand child so they nicely accommodated us at a quiet table and served promptly. Will return on next trip to SF.

You don't get more San Francisco than Scala's, located just off the Powell Street cable car line, steps from Union Square. And with great location comes great responsibility: that's why we work hard to maintain our reputation as one of the city's most essential dining destinations by creating an atmosphere as sophisticated and inviting as the food we bring to the table.
