Go early! We got there at 8:00 on a Saturday morning and waited about 30 minutes. It was fun to watch the locals across the street in Washington Square. The breakfast was delicious! My husband loved the California Omelette and the rest of us had...More

We tried to miss the long line by going to lunch at 2pm. The wait was about 20 minutes. Small corner restaurant. Staff was friendly and professional. The food was worth the wait. The cranberry lemon french toast was yummy. I would go back again...More

Consistently excellent, arrived just in time for the doors opening. Had a 30 minute wait which passed quickly watching the locals in Washington Park. Food plentiful and the usual high standard. Just remember its cash only.

A big yay overall even though my food experience wasn't so good. I believe we got there at 8:30 am and we had about 1.5 hr wait. If you're up for it like I was, no biggy. If you have a grouchy counterpart then not...More

No reservations, just stand in the line up the street. It seems to always be a 2 hr wait, no matter when you get there. We were so hungry by the time we got inside, that we had to start our breakfast with a slab...More

I've been eating here for nearly 40 years and it has only gotten better. They have fantastic, house-make french toast, the best omelettes in town, terrific benedicts, and fresh fruit smoothies. The only downside is the inevitable wait, even at 10 am on a Tuesday....More

North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds
of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian
ristorante come together to create the charming
neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping
grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of
North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always
suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in
the city exude as much European charm and style.

It is available all day, so you can have it for breakfast-before 11am. Even though it is listed under sandwiches from 11am- it says next to the Monte Cristo "available all day". Enjoy!

How long of a wait did you have on line? How does the line work, I read something about placing your order while you're on the line?

The longest wait was 45 minutes. Typical wait is 20-25. I haven't seen anyone order from the line. Once you are in, ordering, seating and food service is very efficient!

Established in 1951.
The family of Mama and Papa Sanchez, serves up traditional and innovative breakfast dishes in "Little Italy", the famous North Beach District in San Francisco. Across the street from the beautiful Washington Square Park, Mama's legions of fans line up early and throughout the day. We use the freshest of local products, imported Italian meats to fill our fluffy omelettes, homemade jam, fresh baked breads, pastries and other delectable dishes. We invite you to try our little restaurant and become part of the Mama's Family.
