This is a to-go spot popular with office workers downtown. The menu changes each day and is rather inventive, quality very high. Service is fast, but you have to take it away.

The best blueberry muffin and coffee cake in San Francisco. Across from palace hotel. They also have interesting hot breakfast which changes regularly

Stand in line, get any sandwich, take it to a near by park and enjoy! This is a locals place but since it's so close to Market Street and right across from the Palace Hotel, it's easy to find. You can't go wrong

My husband and I stayed in San Fransisco for 5 days and on the 3rd day we stumbled upon The Sentinel for lunch and got a sandwich to go. WOW! It was so amazing we went back the next day and tried another one. Their menu changes every once and a while to suit the season and ingredients. The sandwiches... More

It's a popular place, usually with long lines. I was meeting with a client nearby and needed to grab some sandwiches for the group. There were two people behind the counter helping customers, a young woman and a man. The woman was polite and helpful. The man was fairly gruff and impatient with me. I guess I sort of understand... Large, very tasty sandwiches! For smaller guys or ladies, their sandwich might be good for two. Worth trying out more than once, definitely a great choice for a quick tasty lunch downtown.

A group of us working in SF for the week went with our knowledgeable colleagues to the Sentinel for lunch. A limited menu was posted on the side of the restaurant, and I was underwhelmed by the choice. Two of us decided to split two sandwiches, so we go the Eggplant Caprese and Deviled Egg cold sandwiches. The deviled egg... More

Right across the street from the historic Palace Hotel, this lunch spot is a great spot! You need to go early though - once noon hits, there is a good sized line. But the staff is great and very efficient on getting orders out timely!

The small take-out sandwich shop is a great example of how focusing on doing one thing produces exceptional results. The take-out line is a well-honed process which moves you through very quickly and the food is absolutely delicious. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the downtown area, I know I'll be back!

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
