One of my favorite SF meals ever. It's cozy, euro, inviting, and everything on the menu is DELICIOUS!!! I was not expecting this from the modest exterior, but OMG come in, especially on a cold, SF day, go down the stairs to the more "taverny" downstairs, and enjoy a true feast! Service is amazing - the wait staff are beyond... More

We decided to stop after a walk on North Beach. This is a really nice place to have a good beer (a lot of options on the menu) and eat some appetizer). We're surprised by the kind service by the waiter. Definitely recommended!

First stop on trip to San Francisco. Everything was great, including great Belgian beers, and I highly recommend the portobello mushroom, twice cooked fries, and smoked salmon arugula salad. The one disappointment and reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was the smoked trout endive cups, which just really fell short. Highly recommended overall.

As soon as we walked in, the man at the door greeted us and made us feel right at home. He was extremely friendly. This place had terrific customer service and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. They had a whole book of draft beers and bottled beers. The food was good, not really the type of food I typically... More

I'm a sucker for great Trappist ales, and La Trappe delivers! An authentic Belgian experience, complete with mussels and fries. The dessert waffle was delicious!

Wow, this is a beer library with very old, hard to find beers. They have quite a menu so this is for the very sophisticated beer drinker. The restaurant is nice with down and upstairs area. Worth a look while in North Beach area.

Cool place with great European cafe Style and a beer list that rivals Anyplace. Friendly staff with a cool vibe. The music playing was also excellent. We kept it simple, beer, oysters and mussels in the traditional white wine and garlic and we were very pleased. Great place to hang out and enjoy

We ate there three times in 2-weeks. Must sit downstairs. Murray selection of beers, and the food was amazing. Try the mussels.

I came here on a rainy night with two friends. The restaurant is actually downstairs underground, so if you like windows, this is not the place for you. They have a nice varied beer selection and a simple menu. The brussell sprouts were soggy and covered in a dressing that was blah, I'd be surprised if anyone liked these. The... More

If you're a beer aficionado, this place is for you. Seriously, the beer list is two inches thick. If that's not your thing there is also a wine list that boasts some excellent choices. As good as that may seem, it gets way better. We stopped here on the recommendation of a friend. Wow! I'm glad we did. The food... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
