Large functional restaurant that was rather empty for 9.00pm on a Friday evening. Perhaps it was expected as there were only 2 waiting staff. The chicken tikka masala was nicely flavoured but the chicken a bit tough, whilst the tandoori mixed grill was a tad dry and tough. Unusually, we did not finish it. Service was good, but we did... This is our second time in the area trying this place. Seating is plentiful. Service is so so, very slow and slightly difficult because the server didn't have a very good grasp on the English language. The food was awesome. All 4 of us were very pleased with our meals. Will be more than happy to return again for another... More

We popped in for a quick lunch on a Saturday and we were not let down. The place was almost empty but do not let that scare you away. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was excellent. We got the butter chicken and my wife got a large salad and deep fried vegetables to go with it. Excellent... More

Not much of a welcome as we walked in the door, we were pointed to a table right at the front and when we asked to move to the back of the room we were frowned at (despite there being only 2 other diners in the whole place!) before the waitress agreed and told us to pick a table. We... More

We ate Tikka Masala and Lamb Curry. Both were quality and quantity wise right on target. This was one of the really good meals on our 3week trip. But most important are still the people. Our waitress really contributed a lot to our nice evening. Thank you.

The experience was an average one. The chicken curry was cooked in a hurry it seems. In the Paneer masala the paneer pieces were quite hard. It could have been better.

This restaurant, according to my reliable Nepali Gurkha cabbie, is run by a Sherpa who climbed Everest. If you want to sample authentic Nepali food, you have to go to the "specialties" on the menu. I had the lamb choila which comes with traditional roasted soybeans and beaten rice (dry flakes). This was certainly the spiciest dish that j have... More

Food was mediocre at best. Ordered Samoas and mine was still frozen in the middle. Other food was just passable. Would not go back.

I'm not much of a food adventurer. So I stepped out of my comfort zone and came here to try this place when visiting my son. We started with the Aloo Tikki, there were four of us and he suggested we get 2 since it only comes with 2. Honestly 1 could be split comfortably between 4 people. It is... More

I was staying at the Hostel right across the street and Urban Curry was recommended as an inexpensive and easy dinner option. WOW! Wonderful staff, tea while you wait and the food is amazing! They have a wide range of dishes and heat levels so there's something for everyone. I was in town for four days and ate here three... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
