The food at this beaudoir-inspired (red and black) restaurant was quite good (artichoke appetizers & octopus as a main) - they make a decent Negroni. Server was a bit overbearing, the tables are VERY close together so you will hear you waiter tell them same...More

I've eaten outside at the numerous restaurants on this little one block lane. This time we ate in their second floor dining room. Terrific and very friendly service and interesting menu offerings. Nice wine list also.

Had the chicken/rabbit paella, cheese plate and sides to share. Not normally into Paella but this was very tasty with large meat portions. Wine was over priced but decent to drink. House wines I don't think should ever be in the $40s. Would recommend for...More

We needed a dog friendly restaurant and contacted Gitane about making certain we could bring our small dog. They accommodated us on the outdoor tented area. Even though it was a cool April evening, we were warm under the large heaters. The appetizers were fabulous!...More

Named for the freewheeling gypsy, Gitane crosses borders to create a menu that features the flavors of Southern France, Northern Spain and the adjacent regions from Italy to Morocco. Described as one of San Francisco's most romantic restaurants, the design is eclectic, from outdoor patio to soaring bar to the intimate upstairs dining room.
