Getting hungry on the Road to Hana? I highly recommend stopping at the Nahiku Roadside just outside Hana (before Waianapanapa State Park (black sand beach)). There are a few options here, but Island Chef looked the best. I got the coconut shrimp and chips, which was somewhat expensive ($20) but came with 5 huge coconut shrimp freshly fried on top... I love coconut and love coconut shrimp. Stopped by this stretch of shops to have a look and was tempted by coconut shrimps at Island chef. It was a mistake- the shrimps were actually nice if you remove all that overwhelming coconut batter. The fries were ok. For $20, it was not a good dish. There is an Artisan shop... More

We picked Island Chef Restaurant as our lunch stop and ordered Fish & Chips. The wait was too long considering the quality and the taste. We waited for around 45 minutes because a group had just stopped by right before us. The fish & chips was just ok.

We were running late on the Road to Hana, most places were closed. We got the last (very large) plate of fish and chips. The fresh fish of the day was Blue Marlin, apparently straight out of the water. Very friendly and nice - gave us a couple extra pieces of fish, since we were sharing a meal. Would definitely... Great choice to stop at, we came here and a guy popped out the back with a freshly caught Tuna and asked us if we want some? Food was fresh and a big enough portion to share, well worth waiting for!

We had the shrimp and fish platter with salad and rice and it was enough for us to split! Great shopping there next door. Local artist wares on display at great prices.

Travelling along the Road to Hana, stopped at a small cluster of roadside stands, Island Chef being among them. I am usually skeptical of food trucks and roadside businesses in regards to food preparation, quality, cleanliness...etc however there is a posted food inspection with a passing grade clearly visible on the front of the trailer. After a quick look around,... More

My wife and I spent three days in Hana, and after eating the okay food at high prices at the Ranch restaurant, the Island Chef was a welcome surprise. The coconut shrimp was excellent, we had coconut shrimp at three other places while on Maui, and Island Chef's were definitely the best. The prices and food quality was much better... More

The Wok Seared Ahi special was fantastic and so was the Coconut Shrimp! Both of these were just as good as the fancy hotel in Hana at less than half the price!

Stopped in on our way to Hana for a bite to eat and to break up the drive. We shared some fish&chips and coconut shrimp. Hubs still thinks about the massive coconut shrimp and ranks the fish&chips as some of the best on Hawaii. Love all the sauces that come with the feast- definitely get the hot sauce. Service was...
