A very popular stop between Kona and Hilo. Fresh bakery choices by the dozens. We tried a coconut turnover(loaded with coconut) and a bismark (which was filled with custard). We loved both of them. Also both of us had a seafood sandwich made fresh and had for lunch. We both felt it was filled with lettuce etc. but too short... More

When you say "Hawai`ian (Portuguese) Sweet Bread" there is one place to get the real thing-- Punaluu Bakery. I might add that at the remote southern most point in the United States, there are not a lot of food options. But you are in luck here. Besides a delightful bakery of breads and pastries (cinnamon-raison sweet bread makes killer French... More

On your way from/to Volcanoes National Park to/from Kona, you should stop here. Well, it's a place that's run over by tourists, but you should try the tasty malasadas that taste like a original Berliner/Pfannkuchen in Germany and the sweetbread. There's a nice little garden with a picnic area and sometimes a musician around.

People on the Big Island rave about this bakery. I went expecting something amazing and just got a bakery. The donuts are a bit unique but there was nothing mind-blowing. There are samples of their sweetened breads for you to try. I'd say it's worth a stop if you happen to be driving by but not to go out of... More

Although we had to wait in line for about 15 minutes, the malasadas were worth the wait. The gift shop offered a variety of possible purchases. Pokemon Go stop made the wait short for the kids.

We enjoyed stopping at the Punalu'u Bake Shop on our way to see the southern most point of the US. The shop offers a great selection of baked goods, lunch sandwiches and salads, and other gift items. A nice outdoor seating area is available to enjoy your purchase. The day we visited there was entertainer playing guitar which really added... More

We stopped here on our drive around the island. A very nice little bakery with seating outside in a gazebo garden area. Good coffee and pastries.

We're visiting from Alaska and a friend from Hilo said we HAD to stop here for the burgers. So glad we did! The burgers are very reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. The sweet treats are amazing too.
