I have been eating here for over 20 years. Back in the day, this family owned and run Vietnamese restaurant had more than one person working in the kitchen and they had at least 2 waitstaff. The food was very good and so was the speed of service. Local artists displayed and sold their work on the restaurant walls. Food... More

All I needed was a wall of scooters outside, and would have completed the feeling of being back in Viet Nam! great service, and had the Chicken Lemon Grass, medium hot...delightful. I was early in the restaurant and was by myself, except for the to go people who came in. Loved talking to the owner... Gam ON! Thank you!

...but, the service and atmosphere were not very good. Our waitress was nice but slow, and the dining room was pretty empty. Not only was it empty, it was ugly. Not horrid but in need of an update. It is a bad shade of peach with fake peach flowers on the tables. Anyway, we may go back cuz the food... More

We recently visited the West Bank Cafe as we had not gone there for a number of years and thought we would give it another try. I was sorry the idea entered my head. There were 2 of us dining on a Friday night when we walked into the dining room with only 5 other people. A group of 3... More

This is sort of a strange restaurant. It does have some Vietnamese food on the menu, but it also doubles as a Chinese restaurant. It appears to be a husband and wife operation, so it can get real slow if there is more than one table being served. The food quality was just OK. If I was in the neighborhood... More

We have been going here for many years, and again it was my birthday destination. An excellent mix of Asian with often a touch of French throw in. Try the catfish in a clay pot, which is excellent. They are very genreous with their scallops, and for an appetizer I always get the fish cakes. Watch the daily specials as... More

I know what Vietnamese food is supposed to taste like (had it all over the world, including in Vietnam). Head to any place in Chicago's Vietnamese town and you'll find out what good Vietnamese food tastes like. What they serve at West Bank Cafe is far from authentic, and worse yet, not even good. The pho's broth is generic and... More

I had heard so many great things about this place before I went there, and I was thoroughly disappointed. I didn't think there was anything special about either the food or the atmosphere.

If you're looking for great Vietnamese food and flavors that are explosive, you've come to the right place.
