Restaurant is near the capital. The food is great and so is the wait staff. We have eaten there twice now and have not been disappointed. It's in an old brick building which brings its own charm. The short ribs and black eyed peas were wonderful. They have vegetarian available which is also very tasty per our adult vegetarian son.... More

Made a new friend, who is new in town. He wanted to listen to live music. Picked him up and took him to Bluegrass Kitchen. He loooved it. He keep trying to take a pix of decor. We grabbed seats at the bar. The band (The Dread Pirate, Roberts's) was good, but the food was AWESOME! Hummus and Tofu 'Wings'... More

Ive made four trips to this place, both lunch, dinner, and drinks. John and his crew go out of their way to make sure the customer is happy. The food selection is great regardless of the time of day. Tuesday Nights seem to be my favorite for some Blue Yonder. The best part is that people are friendly, and everyone... More

Stopped in for a glass of wine and appetozers. It was very drafty/cold in the bar. There was also an unpleasant odor. I thought it smelled like fish but my husband thought it was from dirty beer drains. Either way- i had one glass of wine and left. The smell lingered so there was no way I could eat there.... More

When the full-bearded waiter greeted us at Bluegrass Kitchen, I flashed back to recently unsatisfactory meals in Brooklyn's hipster restaurants. Our waiter, however, while efficient, answered our questions fully and provided attentive service. Salads and the meat loaf dinner had locally sourced ingredients and were very, very good. The recommended blueberry buttermilk pie was ridiculously good, too. As expected, locals... More

Stopped in for dinner based on recommendation from local hotel. What a great find! Eclectic, local, and welcoming. Unique atmosphere, friendly staff and an amazing choice of options. Meatloaf better than Mom's, Trout and grits, and pulled short ribs were all excellent. You can tell that the owners care about the food and this place. Skip the chains and head... More

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon while traveling. Picked it partly due to the easy on off from 64. First impressions not great. Not the nicest part of town and an older building but turned out to be nicely restored inside. Tin ceilings were gorgeous. Brunch menu was limited but the wife and I were both able to find something... More

If you aren't recognized when you walk in, you are persona non grata here. A little too insular for my tastes.

We went to the Bluegrass Kitchen for a date night and weren't disappointed. We loved the beer cheese fondue appetizer, the large beer selection, and the live music (no cover fee). I had the cod and chips as an entree and my husband had the meatloaf, both were excellent. We'll definitely be back!

Went here for lunch with a business associate on a weekday. Arrived at peak lunch time, about 75% full, seated right away. Seating options included a couch, arm chairs at a table and more traditional tables and chairs. And interesting older building with architectural detail, and the mustiness that goes along with old furniture and an old building. A good... More

Charleston's authentic farm-to-table made-from-scratch modern comfort food restaurant. With a legion of chefs who caringly practice the art of food, BgK offers delicious brunch, dinner, and desserts for hungry vegetarians, meat connoisseurs, and everyone in-between. In the circa 1920 building with pressed tin ceilings and exposed architecture, Bluegrass also serves as a gallery for local artists. In the Tap room there's live original acoustic music most nights, with finely crafted cocktails, a curated wine list & a bounty of beers. Close to West Virginia's beautiful capitol grounds the family-owned and operated Bluegrass Kitchen has been featured in The New York Times and Wall Street Journal as well as Bon Appetit, Garden & Gun, Taste of the South magazines and many more.
