They were very busy (which I think is typical because the food is so good) so we sat at the counter which was perfect as you got to watch all the prep work with the fresh ingredients. Loved it. We had soup and flatbread pizza...More

This was our first stop on the island and what a way to start. My husband had the pizza with anchovies, caramelized onions, and olives and I had the heirloom tomato salad with burrata. The salad was served with fresh baked bread and was perfect...More

My husband and I stopped here for lunch. We ate in the cozy patio in the back of the restaurant. The service was great. They have really good sandwiches. Everything was freshly made. Conveniently located right in town in Friday Harbor.

I prefer the a counter seat because it is close up to the working kitchen, in which the details of food preparation are in full view. Hot brick oven enables fast cooking of complex dishes. Menus change daily, distinctive offerings based on local ingredients. I...More

I had the poached egg over polenta with chili sauce, my husband had the poched egg on potato nest. My egg was nice, but the sauce wasn’t great. His eggs were hard cooked and the potatoes were “nearly burned.” The service was very friendly, and...More

Picked up rosemary and French bread rolls, a hunk of bleechers cheese and a pecan chocolate chip cookie for hiking in Moran and Turtleback areas. It was so wonderful that we did it all 3 days. Great place. Everything made fresh daily.

The bakery part doesn't have gluten free options, but the restaurant was very accomodating. I have celiac disease and was able to get an excellent salad with no problems.

Joni and John Trumbull opened Roses in 1991. The name is derived from the roses planted around the shop's original location. Bakery was included in the name as our original cafe menu relied heavily on sweet and savory goods from the bakery oven. A retail store was added in 1995, which allowed us to sell our baked goods as well as cheese, charcuterie, wines and pantry staples for the serious cook. In 2003, we moved into the remodeled original Eastsound fire station and brought everything under one roof. From the beginning, the intent of Roses was to see nourishment from a more holistic standpoint, providing good, satisfying food and building a sense of community that values the relationships among staff, customers, farms and suppliers.
