The food and service were okay, but nothing was outstanding, except for the peanut soup. The entertainment was very nice.

my 12 year old daughter and I really enjoyed this tavern for lunch. Our dressed in period clothing waitress was lovely. We were serenaded by a colonist with guitar, we had some historic facts delivered by another. My daughter wrote with a quill and made an envelope and sealed it with a wax seal with her initial in the lobby... More

Chowning's Tavern is one of several taverns in Colonial Williamsburg. It was just ok as an authentic colonial tavern experience. The food was just average, nothing special. My Sheppard's pie was good but the portion was small for the price. The server we had was dressed for the part but it seemed not to be into the character. There were... More

Went here for dinner and had a great time. The foos was really good and the fiddler who entertainted us was excellent. We played some 1800 games while we were there and spoke with one of the interpeturs who was on site.

Pretty good food in a Colonial setting. While the prices were modern (but not bad), the portions were good and the service was very good.

The restaurant is trying to reproduce a 17th century tavern with 21st century comforts. It does a good job at neither. During our visit (mid-week) the service was very slow, the food was only so-so, and the size of our party made it such that we had to pay extra tip on the souvenirs that we (foolishly) purchased at the... Not many historical places open for lunch in Williamsburg. Chownings was it. Surprisingly tasty lunch. My husband ordered some sandwich, but my sample of soups, though the portions looked small when it arrived to the table, was remarkably DELICIOUS! And surprisingly, not salty!

WE LOVE CHOWNINGS! It's our favorite eatery in the Revolutionary city. Food has always been excellent no matter what we order, and the service is fabulous! Go for dinner and enjoy great period-appropriate entertainment. A must-visit.

Has a pub type menu. I had the Brunswick Stew and Pastes. My stew was average but the pastes (one beef and one veggie) were really good. Good choices of beers including local craft beers, which the waitress was helpful in selecting. A fun place. Next time we will try dinner.

Thank TK-GT17
