We have been to Virginia Beach many times and finally checked this place out. Somewhat of a limited menu compared to some restaurants. We enjoyed our visit for dinner and the food was very good. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we went back a few days later for lunch and were not disappointed. Prices were about average for... More

We went during happy hour. We waited about 10 minutes. The she crab soup was the best. Raw oysters were a bit small but delicious. All in all a hit.

Big Sam's is on Rudee Inlet at the south end of Virginia Beach. If you can arrange to get a window seat, it's worth the extra wait. They don't take reservations and wait times can be as long as 90 minutes on the weekend. The food is very good. I particularly recommend the shrimp tacos. Their margarita mix came out... More

Stopped in for an early dinner during happy hour. They have a lot of great happy hour food and drink specials, and as a result, it was pretty crowded. However, we got a table right away, overlooking Rudee Inlet. Tried out some of their steamed clams, which were delicious and inexpensive. Then I had a crab cake sandwich, which was... More

My wife selected this restaurant from the reviews. We have been to the inlet before, but this place was not there. When we pulled up I was thinking, oh no. But we were there, tired and hungry, so we proceeded. It was crowded and we had to wait, so that was a good sign. The inside was not fancy. But... More

Appears to be a dive bar but has a rustic dining area serving excellent seafood! Being right on the inlet, the view of the boats coming and going make for a relaxing evening. Reviews stated it was noisy but we did not find that the case. Maybe because it was mid-week and probably a little early (5:30) for the rowdy... More

The food was really good as was the service. The atmosphere is more like a neighborhood bar, older building and lots of noise. We enjoyed it so much we went a second time during our 6 day visit. Prices are moderate and selection of items is plentiful. If you can't eat dessert there take some home. The pies were delicious.... More

This was our first visit to Big Sam's. We got there early but there was still a 20 minute wait. That didn't bother me as it was the weekend. We were seated and I ordered the fish tacos (fried flounder). Gotta say, the best I have ever had! Friendly wait staff, food was prepared well and boy did I want... More

Had to stop in for lunch on a recent visit back to my hometown. Still an awesome place. Best crab cakes at the beach. Breakfast lunch dinner. It doesn't matter you'll get an excellent meal.

The food was very good and the service excellent. The only problem was the raucous table next to ours. Yelling, laughing, inappropriate language, too much to drink. I would normally say that Big Sam's didn't have anything to do with this behavior, but, I have been in restaurants where it wasn't tolerated. I like to have as much fun as... More

Description
Local favorite that is great for visitors as well. Great breakfast right on the water at the Rudee Inlet. Was recommended to us by some locals and overheard at least 2 other people telling other visitors to go there during our 5 day stay. Great lunch and dinners also that feature daily blackboard specials. All desserts are homemade. Seafood, fresh meats, produce and dairy are delivered fresh everyday.
