Our last stop while in VA - and we loved it. Breakfast to die for - we order the french toast and grits. Totally delicious.

We attended a special event hosted by Alan and Kaye Pyles with Guest Chef Elizabeth Cauvel from the Fox Master Chef show. The event was high spirited, the food was outstanding and the wine pairings excellent. Everything was great and all the details were covered. Alan presented his signature Shrimp and Grits while waiting for the entre and Elizabeth served... More
Fascinating Historic Inn. The service was outstanding and we appreciated the champagne and snack left in our room when we arrived. Dinner and wines were delicious and it was interesting to hear why he had chosen each wine. As Arnold says "we'll be back!"
I use TripAdvisor often and love the reviews. We drove 50 minutes each way to this restaurant expecting a great dinner date. I was a little concerned about the mixed reviews but have seen occas. negative reviews on other restaurants that I went to and enjoyed so we decided to chance it. We were disappointed: the Oyster appetizer didn't taste... More
We arrived to find a most gracious hostess who escorted us to a charming room with antique decor. The split of champagne and chocolate was a pleasant surprise( I was expecting cheese and crackers, as I read in another review). As it was 4:30, I went searching for an advertised happy hour which I never found. Not a problem, as... More
Let me begin by saying this is not a bad review, it's just not the great review I had hoped to write. First the good: the Inn dining room is lovely and the proprietors are also very nice. Alan is a well meaning self taught chef who clearly has a passion for his midlife crisis. I applaud his efforts. The... More
We stopped here on the way home from the mountains. My husband and I had reservations at 12:30pm. We were lucky enough to be able to order off the breakfast and the lunch menu. Both were very good, as was th the service.
My husband and I celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary at the Lafayette Inn. Our room was lovely, and so charming. We experienced the 10 course wine pairing, which was amazing. The food was superb, and Alan's selection and explanation of the wines made it that much more enjoyable. We are already planning our next get-away at the Lafayette, and plan... More
First and foremost the food was simply amazing! My husband and I did the 10-course tasting menu and we certainly hope to return and experience the full menu. However we were there in March and the dining room was cold. Several women were rubbing their arms to keep warm. I feel some rugs in the dining room would add a... More
Not something to skip! The 10 course paired chef tasting was wonderful! The southern style cuisine with Alan's own twist was worth the visit. Paired beautifully with a variety of wines and a relaxed atmosphere, it was a fun evening. The Monroe room is tasteful and comfortable. We loved the fireplace too! Breakfast was tasty with French toast, ba one,... More
