The food here is okay for a burger slinging joint, but the experience of Texas Tavern is all about feeling as though you've stepped back 87 years into the past. The two guys working there were amusing and exergetic and the building itself is right out of the thirties. Check out the foot rail by the counter, worn down by... More

This is a regular lunch stop for me. Open 24/7 every day but Christmas. Fast, historic, fun. I recommend the Cheesy Western with a glass of buttermilk. Their hot dogs with homemade relish are extraordinary. You'll enjoy.

Have been going here since I was a kid. Always get a bowl with add a slab and a cheesy with. Always great! Every time I'm in town I make a point to go. My favorite place to eat in town and always enjoy the experience. Also just tried the dirty travis that is on the "secret menu" well worth... More

Texas Tavern has the best chili and hamburgers in the Roanoke area. Prices are superb! The staff is very friendly as well as are the other loyal customers. If you visit Roanoke , the Texas Tavern is a must-visit place ! It was so good Kevin Costner there!

First time here. Read all the reviews. Ordered "to go" for my 5 man crew. Service was friendly and fast. Food was good, not great, but as expected for a hole in the wall, 'round the clock, diner. It was busy when I walked in at 12:30 pm. It was busy while I waited on my order, and busy when... More

I ordered a regular burger and hubby ordered a single cheeseburger. We ordered both with onions. The burgers were pretty bland and tasteless. The buns were totally cold and not warmed at all. We also tried the bowl of chili with the onions. It looked and sort of tasted like pork and beans. It was not what we expected--no meat.... More

No, there is no meat in the chili. The meat in the burger is FRESH. The cabbage mustard relish is superb on the Western sandwich (an egg cooked around a burger). The hot dog chili is some of the best in the country. Back to the chili - there may be meat in the boullion broth, but that is not... More

You absolutely cannot visit Roanoke without visiting this little stop on Church, so we have twice. The guys behind the counter are quick to get your order from the very limited menu, but just what you need. Small burgers, hot dogs with chili and onions, chili bowls, breakfast and everything served with mustard. They will provide catsup but only in... More

The Texas Tavern (or the T&T as Roanokers call it) is a Roanoke Icon. This place is somewhere the locals go for food for all sorts of reason. Lunch is big, quick dinner but I will always remember the T&T as the place to go in the wee early hours of the morning after being out with the crowd all... More

On Feb. 13Th, 1930 during the height of the great depression, I.N. "Nick" Bullington opened the 10 stool Texas Tavern and began serving its famous bowls of chile, hamburgers, hotdogs, and cheesy westerns. With a no frills atmosphere and the motto "Give the customer a fair shake" the Texas Tavern has become a landmark and a rite of passage for many locals and visitors alike. Known as "Roanoke's Millionaires Club",
it is still run by the same family, now in its 4th generation of ownership.
