Wonderful dogs and hamburgers. Chili is better than my own. This place has been around for 87 years. Classic!!

I ate there 3 weeks ago and had a Cheesy Western and some coffee. I was not at peak eating mode, as I had spent the previous day throwing up in the parking lot of Lane Stadium. Nonetheless, I had to have something, so a...More

You go here for the experience more than the food. The TT had great short-order diner food, but more than that it has 87 years of diner tradition living on in unadorned authenticity. Do not pass within 50 miles without stopping.

I chanced upon this place, noticed the "Millionaire's Club sign," saw a policeman sitting inside -- always a sign of insider approval -- then the sign on the door to the effect that "Ladies Like It Here, Too!" The next morning I headed straight for...More

I don't know who is posting all these 5 star reviews but they must not eat out much! The so called famous chili is disgusting! All it had was a cup of watery beans with hardly any flavor. I can teach them how to make...More

After "eating" at the Texas Tavern I have to wonder if all of the four- and five- star ratings aren't some kind of "in joke" that I'm not getting. I've eaten in many burger dives with amazing greasy burgers throughout the US, but this is...More

On Feb. 13th, 1930 during the height of the great depression, I.N. "Nick" Bullington opened the 10 stool Texas Tavern and began serving its famous bowls of chile, hamburgers, hotdogs, and cheesy westerns. With a no frills atmosphere and the motto "Give the customer a fair shake" the Texas Tavern has become a landmark and a rite of passage for many locals and visitors alike. Known as "Roanoke's Millionaires Club", it is still run by the same family, now in its 4th generation of ownership.
