It is a HIKE if coming from the I 81 corridor, such as from the Roanoke valley and ESPECIALLY if traveling from the New River Valley. About 19 miles north of I 81 is the town of New Castle, county seat for Craig County. But...it is about another SEVENTEEN miles, quite a bit of it up and over Potts Mountain in northern Craig, to get to Swinging B. But Route 311 just got a new paint job in recent years, plus most of the pavement is solid and relatively new. Potts Mtn has elev of 3500 ft. Town of Paint Bank (Swinging B restaurant) is just under 1900. The food is GREAT here. For a rural place in extreme western edge of Virginia, the prices are a little bit on high side. But if you are visiting from ANY metro area, prices are extremely reasonable. There is a small "swinging" footbridge directly over part of dining area!! On warm days with no rain, folks can eat outside. I have been here 4 times since pandemic began in MAR 2020, never disappointed. Strongly recommend it. But on weekends, it may be wise to call ahead to see how crowded they are. Esp with the reduced seating cuz of COVID. (540) 897-5099More

Enjoyed the menu and the staff was great, buffalo burgers, fresh salads, great steak. Small shop upstairs with the Swinging bridge. A must visit

I wouldn’t go out of my way again to visit this restaurant. Average service and average flavor of food. It was nothing special!

Not only does this serve awesome, buffalo-based food, but many other delicious things, as well. That makes it unique; however, the "swinging bridge" alludes to the actual swinging bridge that hovers over the dining area and takes one from one side of a unique shop...to the other. This is well worth an afternoon jaunt. Truly.More

Talk about a surprise - we loved everything we ordered! The biscuits and rolls were amazing! Great old house country setting. There is a back yard area to wait that has horseshoes and other outdoor games. Only thing was service seemed a bit slow. I’m...not sure if the waitresses were overwhelmed but it seemed that way.More

Very unique restaurant & store! We had dinner in the restaurant and there was live music, too! I had their bison burger! Very good! Of course, I HAD to walk across the “Swinging Bridge” crossing over the dining area!

Restaurant on grounds of the Depot Lodge. Food served good old country style. We had the covered chicken breast and chopped buffalo steak. With stewed country squash. Its the south where no one is a stranger, so your tableside chats will include the staff and...the guy at the next table. The menu is fresh food and sides but no alcohol, which was fine. The general store sells beer and wine to take away. Good reasonable pricing and just what the dr ordered. Not sure of handicap accessible, and not sure it is considered romantic but the lodging certainly is!More

The Swinging Bridge is located in the Paint Bank General Store and part of a complex which includes the Depot Lodge. This is not fine dining, but very good and approachable for not only Depot Lodge guests, but affordable for the locals as well. Best...place in Paint Back - but then, the only eatery in Paint BackMore
