Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We heard about La Lupa on a local page and subsequent reviews from friends and family. The venue has a great authentic vibe and you can smell the woodfire pizza a mile away.
The restaurant was very dark though....
When we walked in, we weren't greeted, we had to go to the front to ask where we would be seated.
Staff were attentive and we were in an out within an hour and a half.
We ordered the garlic & cheese foccacia to start, veal saltimbocca & gnocchi 4 cheese for main, creme brulee & cannoli for mains. We also ordered a couple of the kids meals.
I couldn't fault my meal and really enjoyed everything - as did the kids.
However, with the veal - they don't/hadn't removed the toothpicks holding everything together during the cooking process. They were so well hidden, my husband almost chocked! 🤦♀️ He did say his main was lacking flavor and seasoning, he also wasn't to wrapped up in all the chocolate powder all over the cannoli.
We would definitely go back for pizza as a family.

Food was very bland, no garnish to make it look attractive “plonked” on a plate. Service very slow even though they weren’t very busy. Had to ask for drinks & menu for dessert. Bit expensive for what we got. Third visit and it’s not as good as it use to be

Been coming here for years and made a booking last night for a quick feed with the wife. First after being seated the waitress bought table water, and then took it away again without pouring even! But she stayed long enough to advise us that we had to put our bottle away as they were no longer BYO.
So we order, carbonara and a gnocchi dish. With water, after calling her back with the water bottle. Carbonara was an unusual flavour, not bad, just different, but the pasta was hard and chewy and barely warm. At least a decent sized feed though, opposite to the gnocchi which was barely a man sized entree and left me nothing but hungry.
This has been our go to Italian for years but no more. We were both really let down by the place now.
No BYO, Very noisy inside, nothing to soften sounds at all, hard cold chairs, cold food, small servings.
Just cant think of a reason to go back. Which kinda sucks actually as authentic Italian is difficult to locate and somewhat scarse in the outerlying suburbs.

We were treated appallingly by a male staff member he was incredibly arrogant and rude to us ladies and there were 5 of us. We were told we can no longer bring our own wine. We ordered the so called Yarra Valley Rose from the menu but when it came to our table it had a dodgy label on it. It tasted like cheap watered down clean skin rose. The waitress told us the winery was having trouble with their labels to start with but then said oh actually no we cant get that wine. So she was unsure what we were drinking but we had to pay $26 for a bottle of crap. The pizzas were stingy with hardly any topping. We will never ever be back and such a shame as we are all local. Crappy Crappy service.

Omg! New owners do not know what they are doing. My lasagne came out 20 minutes before my salad and chips. My family got their meals 30 minutes later. The middle of the lasagne was cold, chips were undercooked and Parmers looked like reheated chicken with half melted cheese. Bitterly disappointed a I loved this restaurant. I’ll never return.

Waiter was argumentative about temperature of wine. Gnocchi Napoli with buffalo cheese rather tasteless and poorly presented in rather small quantity. Our friend received an almost cold platter of gnocchi. Pizza was okay.
On previous occasions we had a much better experience ; perhaps result of new staff.

Being a Sunday evening it was not as crowded as it was the last time we were here. The service and food were excellent as usual. The pizzas were authentic Italian and the bruschetta was delicious. Well worth the visit to a truely Italian joint in the outer east if you are ever in this part of the city.

Having lived in Italy and been on holidays there. Eating pizza in Australia is terrible. Until you go to this place, simply the best and other than everyone speaking English you would think you are in Italy.
I’ve edited this post as it is now absolutely terrible

Have been fans of La Lupa Romana for years. The closest to Italian food that I've had outside of Italy!
I have never had a bad experience there, regardless of dining in or ordering take away. Our latest experience saw us with a Rustica pizza, which is off an older menu, but they obliged anyway. On top of that, the ragu was also amazing.
Worth a visit.

Probably the nicest pizza I’ve ever had! Delicious pizza and garlic bread. BYO wine only - very busy little restaurant with a great atmosphere so make sure u book a table. Having said that I called on the day and they were very accommodating and able to fit us in at short notice. I’m looking forward to going back again to try their pasta and tiramisu 😉

The most magnificent and authentic Italian pizza and gnocchi I have ever had! Tasted exactly like the food on the village outskirts of Florence. Will definately be back. 6 stars all the way!

THE ORIGINAL OWNER & CHEF HAS RETURNED !!!
**Exquisite & Delicious Authentic Italian Food**
We dine out a lot - it is our Favourite thing to do. Spending time together to enjoy and eat delicious food - that makes us say : WoW! **La Lupa Romano Montrose : has Truly Blown Us Away ! Seriously Lost for Words - and that means a lot for me/us.
The food is made by one extraordinary man - the owner.
Who delivers expertise food beyond disbelief. You can actually taste his LoVe of making the food for his clientele. The Bruschetta was served in a unique way on an oval woodfired bread the tomatoes so sweet tasty, basil, and the balsamic is unique and delicious. The ELENA - Pizza is on the Special board that just gives your taste buds a delight !
With it’s magnificent delicious flavours with a Full Sized Round Buffalo Cheese that is cold placed in the middle of the Hot Pizza makes it Complete. We ordered the Gnocchi Ragu another taste sensation! The Gnocchi itself was cut into the perfect bite sized pieces - the Gnocchi potato is so *Soft* that they melt into your mouth. And you can actually taste the flavour of the potato. The ragu sauce was mild and rich at the same time, the meat is cooked perfectly just melt onto your tongue. No chewing - no dry meat ! Desserts were full of flavour the Tiramisu rich coffee and cream taste and the Creme‘ Brûlée - Sweet and Vanilla cooked on point! There is no doubt that this restaurant delivers 5 star food in a beautiful location at the base of the mountain.
MIGLIORE - **AMAZING TASTING - THE BEST FOOD!

We love coming here as a lot of locals do. By far the best wood fire pizza and quality pasta dishes for miles. Italians run the place, the food is great and the menu has imported Italian drinks. Looking forward to my next pizza already
