Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stopped in at Prairie Hotel, Parachilna for a drink. The pub has been beautifully renovated since we were here a few years ago. I tried to pay for a round of drinks with cash, only to be referred to a sign on the counter, advising...the venue is a ‘cashless’ business. When i queried as to what happens if the internet goes down, i was informed that it won’t happen. As we generally use cash when we holiday, especially when in remote areas, this was quite surprising and disappointing. Be aware everyone. Unlikely that we will be back.More

Fantastic imaginative and genuine food- the quirky menu with feral and non feral items is not a gimmick, it’s beautifully prepared and well presented. Dont be afraid of the food here and settle for a burger- try something new that you’ll not find any where...else around here. The emu pate is stunning with gorgeous relish and amazing port jelly. Camel sausage rolls are also stunning.. A clean, modern pub many won’t be expecting here but it was a pleasure to walk into after a dusty day driving the beautiful Flinders Ranges. The micro brewed beer was great to find here and a tasting paddle was excellent.More

This place is in an isolated spot and looks historic from the outside but inside is flash and modern. Yes they do have a lot of bush tucker on the menu ("roadkill") and it is not cheap but it is well done and look where...you are! Flies will carry you away outsideMore

We have wanted to go to this iconic pub for a long time. We were on a Flinders Ranges trip and we stopped in the for lunch and a drink. When we arrived there were 2 options for lunch, a cold feral platter for $50...if you wanted homus that was an extra $15. Option 2 was a bag of Redrock potato chips. The beer and other drink selections were very limited and the staff had no personalities. It was a very disappointing experience. Would not recommend it to anyone.More

Where to start? Rooms were clean and comfortable. My daughter and I shared a smaller room with no fridge, and my mum and son shared a larger room with better facilities down the back. Despite the fact that we were towards the front near the...kitchen, we heard no noise, and there was a very comfortable communal lounge just outside the door. The staff, in particular Ellie and Kristy, were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble, questions before our trip were answered quickly and professionally and the communication leading up to our stay was exemplary. Both lovely ladies were always friendly and full of smiles. The food. Oh my…. The food! I tried things I wouldn’t normally eat, and they were all excellent. I can thoroughly recommend the roo tail, hummus, saltbush dukkah and feral antipasto in the smaller plates, as well as the roo schnitzel, slow cooked lamb, crispy twice cooked potatoes and prairie mess. My mouth is watering thinking about them! Be sure to book the Ediacaran tour through The Prairie Hotel - it’s well worth it if you are interested in fossils and early life. This is definitely a place I would love to return to (although I’m bringing a fly net next time!!)More

We stayed here overnight as part of a group tour. As is often the case the single travellers in the group ended up with the less favorable rooms - no fridges, smaller room and mine was right next to the kitchen and dining area and...the common lounge area ... noisy. The platter we had as an entree I couldn't touch as it was all processed meat, and a glass of wine was $14!!!! I can't recommend but I would implore you to treat single travellers in a group the same as couples when it comes to accommodation standards.More

This is one of those pubs that end up being a must do. It’s a strange site sitting in the middle of a very small Parachilna, like an oasis in the desert lol Great food but be mindful there are some pretty quirky meals on...offer. We sided with the beef burger instead of the kangaroo schnitzel or the feral plate (consisting of emu, kangaroo, camel etc). Perhaps you will be more adventurous. Good food and in relative terms responsibly priced. Outdoor eating area was lovely and not a fly on site which is strange given the billions of flys around. I say go do it you won’t regret it at all.More

Dinner,Bed and Breakfast package .... Life doesn't get much better than sitting on the front verandah of a pub out in the middle of nowhere, with a very good guitarist/singer crooning, watching a magnificent orange sunset slip over the endless flat horizon while enjoying a...nice aperativo and nice conversations with fellow travellers ... then on to a delicious dinner seated at long tables in the communal dining room, sleeping in a world class room with ensuite tastefully decorated with an Australian ambience, and regrouping the next morning at long tables to enjoy a home style. breakfast before heading off for the big smoke.More

Beautiful hotel in a unique natural setting. We booked out the entire hotel for our group. The staff, rooms and meals were magnificent. We booked the Nilpena Ediacara Fossil Tour in conjunction with our stay and that was excellent. Stunning sunset with great photos of...the Parachilna Cowboy. Special mention to Ellie and other staff - they were incredible.More

We travelled up from Pt Augusta just to visit the Prairie since I hadn't visited since it's recent makeover. Very impressed! The absolute highlight was the staff, we had two lovely women attending to us in the restaurant who were both so lovely, friendly, and...knowledgeable. I didn't catch their names but thank you! I had the Sadie Jane Stout which was delicious, and my partner had a recommended gin which was also very good. For food we ordered the haloumi (our favourite!), onion pakora, and the cauliflower. I'm vegetarian and my partner is gluten free and we both were catered to very easily and attentively. For dessert we had the tiramisu (amazing huge serve which I took half home for later) and Prairie Mess. Left with a few bits of merchandise, full bellies, and good memories. We also loved that the restaurant is also essentially an art gallery with gorgeous Aboriginal art for sale lining every wall. Thanks for a great experience!! We will definitely be back. P.S the only thing I wished we could do was camp in Parachilna somewhere, as we ended up being limited on how much we could drink and how long we could stay because we had to drive onwards to find somewhere to camp the night. But when I called in advance the staff were also very helpful in suggestions for nearby places to camp, so if you are planning ahead it's no problem! :)More

Our third visit to The Gallery Restaurant, and once again it did not disappoint. Shared an entree of pakoras, then mains of Slow Cooked Goat & Beer Can Chook with a shared side of Twice Cooked Crispy Potatoes. Food was to die for,  and very...generous servings. Service was professional but friendly. But wait, there's more.... An hour after leaving, we were in Copley when I realised I'd left a favourite jacket behind at the Prairie. Phoned them to confirm they had it, checked their closing time, and said I'd be back straight away to collect it (a 130km round trip). Quick as a flash Ellie said "Give me 5 minutes,  I think I can get it up to you on the truck 1st thing tomorrow morning." True to her word, I was reunited with my jacket the following morning, when Zac at Cooks Outback Motors in Copley handed it over. Now THAT is service. Ellie went above and beyond, and I am eternally grateful. Now I'll not only rave about the beautiful food at The Prairie,  but also the exceptional service.More
