We stayed here overnight as part of a group tour. As is often the case the single travellers in the group ended up with the less favorable rooms - no fridges, smaller room and mine was right next to the kitchen and dining area and the common lounge area ... noisy. The platter we had as an entree I couldn't touch as it was all processed meat, and a glass of wine was $14!!!! I can't recommend but I would implore you to treat single travellers in a group the same as couples when it comes to accommodation standards.

Great restaurant in a unique outback setting. We had a pre-booked lunch here for a group of 5. Although there was a slight mixup with the lunch that was supposed to be pre-ordered for us, the manager was very transparent about what went wrong and we got the equivalent amount of dishes which were very good quality.

Where to start? Rooms were clean and comfortable. My daughter and I shared a smaller room with no fridge, and my mum and son shared a larger room with better facilities down the back. Despite the fact that we were towards the front near the kitchen, we heard no noise, and there was a very comfortable communal lounge just outside the door. The staff, in particular Ellie and Kristy, were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble, questions before our trip were answered quickly and professionally and the communication leading up to our stay was exemplary. Both lovely ladies were always friendly and full of smiles. The food. Oh my…. The food! I tried things I wouldn’t normally eat, and they were all excellent. I can thoroughly recommend the roo tail, hummus, saltbush dukkah and feral antipasto in the smaller plates, as well as the roo schnitzel, slow cooked lamb, crispy twice cooked potatoes and prairie mess. My mouth is watering thinking about them! Be sure to book the Ediacaran tour through The Prairie Hotel - it’s well worth it if you are interested in fossils and early life. This is definitely a place I would love to return to (although I’m bringing a fly net next time!!)

We have wanted to go to this iconic pub for a long time. We were on a Flinders Ranges trip and we stopped in the for lunch and a drink. When we arrived there were 2 options for lunch, a cold feral platter for $50 if you wanted homus that was an extra $15. Option 2 was a bag of Redrock potato chips. The beer and other drink selections were very limited and the staff had no personalities. It was a very disappointing experience. Would not recommend it to anyone.

Travelled here as part of my Taste of the Outback tour with Australian Air Safaris What a surprise unique boutique hotel on the prairie west of the Flinders Rangers Wonderful contemporary room - you walk in at mezzanine level where the bathroom is located then step down five steps to the bedroom which includes a comfy lounge with views at ground level The old main hotel building has been tastefully restored in line with its heritage and the upgraded bar with microbrewery and extensive eclectic range of non and alcoholic beverages ensures every taste will be accommodated. Food service is another level - unique Australian fare with a range of native and feral meats to try. Must be pre booked - only available to guests who have booked well in advance

A week or so back, an old friend and self, ‘Grey Nomads, if you will – headed for Parachilna and the famous Prairie Hotel, to partake of the hospitality of mine host, Lachy and the delightful, Ellie. Now, for several decades, it has been the habit of Gert & Daisy to make their annual pilgrimage to this hallowed ground however, this time I had an old friend of some 65 years in tow and had been bending his ears for months on the manifold attractions of this Out Back paradise. Needless to say, he was not disappointed. Ellie is an incredible asset to Front of House and young Georgia and Victoria with whom we had most interaction are likewise a very refreshing experience. Accommodations comfortable and well appointed {We are none to swift on our feet and Management provided us with a perfect little double ensuit, below stairs and. . ..with a fantastic view as well. It is all too easy to become somewhat jaded by the lack lustre presentation of so many establishments. Between grunted ‘Waddaya want’ and food positively slopped onto your plate, leaves a lot to be desired and, when you are greeted with the vivacity displayed by management and staff at the Prairie, it kind of blows you away. Food was as always, delicious, attractively presented and plentiful. Special praise for the Prairie Mess, Feral Grill and Feral Antipasto – we all but licked the plates clean. Vic gave the House Brew a big thumbs up even taking a half dozen or so cans home, to show off to his mates in Happy Hour. Ditto for the Shiraz, even though it is not a local vintage, none the less bottled for the Prairie and – according to Vic, the Shiraz was quote . . . . “full-bodied, rich, enduring on the palate with a good nose. Excellent value, will definitely be coming back for more.”. . . Thanks folks, until we meet again, here’s looking at you ! Vic and Loma (Daisy) . . . (sorry, no photo this time - Vic has the camera. . . lol)

9 of us booked for the feral platter to share at $55 each this included two platters between 9 people , one dessert each and one wine each. 9 x 55 = $495 dollars seriously for what we got was a rip off. The service was rushed , rude and poor by the mother and daughter team. The offer for your glass of wine at the end of the meal was poor timing when they knew we were purchasing dinks from the bar. In all honesty the meal was worth $18 each plus desert at $ 9 plus a glass of average wine at $10 all up $40 per head not $55. 9 of us walked out disappointed . Beware folks Finally , camel was a salami style ... emu was pate, ham from Woolworths, kangaroo slithers.

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE A SINGLE MOTHER!!!! Booked and paid online for lunch, arrived with my two year old and almost immediately was made feel like I/we were a hindrance to the older waitress. Got ignored several times by her while I waited to ask questions and to buy a beverage before sitting down, I swear the woman scoffed at me when I asked to buy a drink since she had already attended to me a couple times by now, but this was the result because she continued to walk away before I had finished with all my enquires. One of these enquires was regarding lunch for my daughter, I explained that she would not possibly eat 2 courses and it would be such a waste because I wouldn’t eat her leftovers as well as my own meal, before I got a chance to discuss options (my suggestion after this rude comment was I could pay a bit extra and order her a starter) she explained that “these dining options are meant to be an experience, we don’t serve chicken nuggets” 😳😡 This comment was completely outrageous!!! I should’ve left then! However I sat at our table and waited 45minutes for someone to take my choices from the select lunch menu, by this time I had had enough and asked for my money back. Another staff member happily obliged and apologised profusely for being made feel so unwelcome, she made several attempts to rectify the situation, but it was past it, I no longer wanted to dine there. The original older staff member who served me approached me to ask me what was wrong, and as I explained with tears in my eyes how she had treated me had made me feel very unwelcome she literally turned her back mid explanation and walked away! It’s hard enough being a single mum, and on the very rare occasion you go out for lunch to be made feel like you’re a bother and being shooed away just leaves an extremely unpleasant taste in ones mouth! I was really looking forward to this, one of the bucket list things to do, but I regret going here! I have never had such a horrible dining experience, left the establishment in tears!!! Just horrible! I would give a negative rating if I could!

Renovated to be more current this hotel in the middle of nowhere has a lot to offer. We stayed for 2 nights filling our day with the local sights checking out the oldest known fossils on the planet and the gorges within 60 mins of the hotel. Staff are great, Accom’s are very comfortable. Good WiFi. But the food is the clincher. Really good!! Feral platters, mixed grill comprised of emu kangaroo and camel, boar ragu. My wife is extremely finicky she loves the food. Come and try this place you will love it.

We had lunch here as part of an all day 4WD tour with Rawnsley Station. It was quite the experience with their food locally sourced from emu, camel, kangaroo and goat. We had an antipasto plate first featuring local foods and bush plants for example salt bush. It was a large platter and we had to leave room for the main course. The camel pate was my favourite. Their house baked bread was delicious. I then chose a grill featuring wild meats of which the emu rissole was my favourite. I had tried a lot of meat by the end of lunch. Even the drinks were made from bush plants. Worth going there just for the novel food experience.

We arrived before lunch dining opened but were able to enjoy a saltbush dukkah share plate (yum!) and cold drinks. They have their own brewery and tasting paddles. The staff were lovely and we would highly recommend visiting this unique outback pub.

Fantastic imaginative and genuine food- the quirky menu with feral and non feral items is not a gimmick, it’s beautifully prepared and well presented. Dont be afraid of the food here and settle for a burger- try something new that you’ll not find any where else around here. The emu pate is stunning with gorgeous relish and amazing port jelly. Camel sausage rolls are also stunning.. A clean, modern pub many won’t be expecting here but it was a pleasure to walk into after a dusty day driving the beautiful Flinders Ranges. The micro brewed beer was great to find here and a tasting paddle was excellent.

A group of 9 dined for a shared platter and we were all disappointed. The presentation and food were nice, but there was not enough to feed us all. A few went hungry. At $55 a head it is overpriced and overrated. If you want to visit, go for a drink and check out the artwork which is great.

The accommodation, food and hospitality is well worth the drive. Ensure you make the Prairie Hotel your base for a few days when visiting the northern Flinders Ranges. The staff are lovely and friendly and the incredible food that comes out of the kitchen would be right at home in a capital city restaurant. I can’t wait to go back - there is a lot more I want to try off the breakfast and dinner menu.

We found somewhere very special, in fact the Prairie is the Jewel in the crown of the Flinders and Jane and Ellie are the diamonds!!! We are so fortunate to have this in our backyard, Australia is the land of contrasts and this small oasis in the desert is an experience everyone should have on their list. Firstly it’s a surprise package turning into the town of Parachilna and finding the hotel, very Australian, and rich history with a community you belong to immediately. The gourmet food, choice of drinks, service, on-site craft brewery run by Lachy and the Nilpena station and Fossil program run by Ross is beyond belief so well organised a fabulous business model and an authentic Flinders experience. We felt bereft when we left and when we arrived at our next stop felt quite lonely. We had truly been spoilt with the desert hospitality and on our last night at the Prairie we had a gourmet bbq and shared it with other guests, getting to know new people and sharing our Parachilna experiences was a real highlight. Thank you and yes we will be back and bringing and recommending it to others it was pure joy, relaxation and highlight of a very difficult year!!!
