Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a wonderful spot to have fish and chips when you don't feel like cooking! You can eat outside if you wish beside the entry to the Mapleton National Park, overlooking a lagoon filled with water lilies. No mossies on any of the times...we've been. Bring your own wine and the cafe provides very nice stemmed glasses. The fish is excellent, as are the fries--better, we think, than the chips but that's a personal thing! Good salads. Very friendly hospitable staff. We love it and can't believe it took us so long to find it.More

Most times we have our grand children this Cafe has been closed however on this occasion (15th April) it was open. Being long term locals, we decided to have early dinner. Much to our disgust (and the kids) it was absolutely terrible! The entire meal,...fish, chips, potato scallops, seafood sticks and calamari were all overcooked and EXTREMELY OILY! To make matters worse when I spoke with the owner the following day, he was not concerned. This is a real pity as the Cafe has a lovely setting and will do well in the hands of new ownership which can't come soon enough for most locals I'm sure.More

Although we drain the oil as much as possible, you have to understand that you have ordered food that is deep fried. We have never had a complaint such as this, that is why the owner was not concerned.

I have been bringing my elderly dad to this wonderful Fish and Chip cafe for the past three years. The food is always excellent, the owners are wonderful people who cannot do enough to help you and make sure that you are looked after. The...atmosphere is great, the location is very relaxing. There are many locals who we know that, like us, return regularly on a weekly basis to have lunch or dinner. The owners have done a wonderful job of renovating and we always leave feeling so grateful to have such a great place to eat run by such wonderful people! And no, I don't know the owners apart from visiting their business and I am not being paid to write this - ha ha. I just deeply appreciate everything they do!More

Our oil is very high quality & changed regularly. We use Rice Bran Oil, when others use cheap vegetable oil. Perhaps you are used to that taste. We also go thru a lot of Chicken Salt and have to make it up regularly. Perhaps you...More

We like to support local business & as such have been to fishtales on 3 separate occasions. Each time we have been very disappointed with the quality, quantity and pricing of the food provided. We will not be coming back.

Best fish n chips I’ve ever had! And you have to try the pomegranate salad - it was delicious! Gorgeous atmosphere in the outdoor seating under fairy lights. Highly recommend.

This place is seriously amazing. The owner is fantastic and the seafood just smashes it out of the park, What a hidden gem in Mapleton! They also do great grilled fish if you prefer or if you are gluten free. What I would say to...the amazing owner is stay true to yourself, you have an amazing place and product. We will certainly be recommending to anyone visiting the area.More

I visited Fish Tales with my family for lunch on a Sunday. The quality of the food was fresh and delicious, also at an affordable price. The staff were very friendly and the meal was served in a timely manner. The location is near the...Lilley pond and local park. I would recommend this venue to anyone without hesitation.More

Excellent fish meals! Highly recommended, in fact, we prefer to make the drive to this hinterland establishment (35-40 min drive) instead of the greasy seaside fish and chips locally on the coast. The restaurant is open since our recent visit and doing business (sorry to...hear someone thought it was closed-down). They do have limited open hours: Wed - Sun afternoons; also, I think they do *close for two hours* between lunch and dinner time, but please call ahead to be sure; but they are surely doing business.More

We were so excited to go here to try one of their great burgers we saw in a menu where we stayed only to find that the shop looks like it's been closed down for a while...this needs to be updated so others don't get...excited and then let down.More

With an hour to kill before an appointment with the local Real Estate agent, my wife and I sampled the battered Hoki and chips at Fishtales, Mapleton. The staff were friendly and the fish and chips as good as anywhere we’ve been to - the...takeaway price an amazing $10 per serve. I thoroughly recommend Fishtales.More

This is a great little cafe and takeaway venue. Very tasty fish and chips. Casual and friendly with a very sunny, relaxed atmosphere. Outdoor settings need revamping but otherwise, very enjoyable.

The fish was disappointingly dry, and the panko breadcrumbs were coarse and floury. Have enjoyed much better fish and chips!
