The venue is very nice and the staff extremely attentive but the food was very disappointing. There was just too much sugar! A tiny cup of soup, half a standard sandwich per person and a minute arancini ball was the only savory food. Small lemon tart, meringue topped with berries with lemon curd centre, chocolate and walnut brownie, creme brulee as well as the standard scones jam and cream too much sugar! The tea was presented with teabag string hanging out of the pot and with insulated cups without handles to drink from. We were extremely full by the end of the session but were all over the sugar! I was excited to be going to a Peppers venue expecting a high end experience unfortunately I felt they let themselves down.

Food Is Terrific, Staff Not Too Organised

The evening dinner was very nice with tables socially distanced and servers wearing masks. Numbers were limited, so a seating had to be booked. The same for the breakfasts. All dishes were very generous and tasty. We especially liked the pork 3 ways to share. Breakfast menu offers a good choice, but not so much for those who do not eat eggs. The chef was willing to alter a dish to comply with no eggs. Again, the servings were quite large and creative. The staff seemed a bit confused as our wine order did not appear and had to be reordered with another staff member. However, all was done with a smile. Looking out at the gardens really added to the lovely atmosphere of the room.

This is hard to do as generally we don’t write bad reviews, but we tried to book the night before for 7-7.30 and were asked to come at 7.45pm. As we don’t mind eating late we agreed. On arrival about 7.35 we were seated and told the waitress would be back in a minute to take our order. The waitress returned at 7.50 and started to take our order, 3 courses for $103 with wine parings. The waitress then informed us that the kitchen closes at 8pm and they would bring our entree and main courses together. When we objected there was a lot of fussing and explanations and until we said forget it we’ll go to the pub there was no give. Eventually they agreed to let us have a 10 min break between entree and main and we forgot about dessert altogether. We ordered a predinner drink each which was delivered with the entree and paired wine, the welcome bread was put on the table half way through the first course. We were asked if they could deliver the main after 5 minutes . Now the food was very nice, the steak perfectly cooked, but unfortunately the whole experience left a sour taste in our mouths. Why would you ask us to make the booking 7.45 knowing full well the kitchen closes at 8!

Although a limited menu due to Covid, the food at Katers is excellent quality. The chef was very amenable to replacing chips with vegetables. Breakfast was also good, but more choices could have been offered for those on longer stays.

Better than expected

It was pouring with rain as I walked up the path to meet a friend. I imagine how wonderful, this building would look on a sunny day, just beautiful. Graceful trees and splashing water from the fountains. It’s probably 25 years since I was last here. The meal then was very ordinary. The rooms were inviting and the venue pleasantly subdued. My friend is quietly spoken and I often struggle to hear her conversation. But last night I was able to hear her. As I waited I had one of the best coffees in a long time. I mulled over the menu, either a degustation for just over one hundred or individual courses. I opted for individual courses. Pre dinner bread which was tasty and soft with a crunchy crust and superb olive oil, accompanied with a scalloped biscuit and flavourful mince topping. I must find that bread...fabulous! Each course was excellent, small stuffed mushrooms and delightful decorated peas. Care and attention to detail was obvious. My main was perfectly cooked melt in the mouth beef. We didn’t buy any of the sides, but didn’t miss them. I then enjoyed a lovely dark chocolate tart. My friend was very pleased with her choices...zucchini flower, lamb and petit fours. Another wonderful coffee. A very pleasant evening.

Elegant and friendly atmosphere

We loved our delicious and very generous breakfasts at Caters as well as an excellent dinner on our second night. Due to COVID we could only dine on one night but the gracing menu throughout the hotel was also very good. We enjoyed a totally delicious meal and excellent service on the Friday night of our stay. The staff are excellent and very warm and welcoming. A lovely experience.

Outstanding meal

My wife and I ate at Katers while staying at Peppers Sutton Forest. We both agreed that it was an outstanding meal in a lovely setting. Our waiter was very attentive and our chef produced a terrific meal. Barramundi and mushroom risotto were equally impressive and we really enjoyed the sides of beans and potatoes. My meal was accompanied by the excellent Pinot Grigio from the local Artemis Vineyard. Finished with a delicious chocolate tart accompanied by a De Bortoli port. A meal to remember for a long time to come.

An Excellent restaurant to dine at, service was wonderful, friendly and very polite young lady that attended to all the diners on Saturday night. Views to the garden and courtyard. We didn't feel rushed at all. Food excellent, we enjoyed the Barramundi and the Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli followed by the Apple Crumble Tart. All beautifully presented and very tasty. Note: If you try to book online and find no reservation available, call the hotel and a table was found for us.

Exceptional Food & Dining Experience

Exceptional Dining Experience We ate at Kater's Restaurant on two consequetive nights. On both occasions the food was exceptional as were the local wines. The wait staff were attentive, friendly and provided great service. Highly recommend, we will be back. Compliments to the Chef the scallops were superb, as was the Beef Wellington and Steaks. This restaurant should be hatted. Fine dining at its best without the fine dining prices.

No need to leave the hotel for meals. Only ate dinner here and was pleased with the food quality. Hotel offers two free drink vouchers at check in. Tried a local Highlander beer...not bad.

Good dinner experience

Husband and I went for a birthday dinner at Katers Restaurant. We were early and wandered to the bar for a pre-dinner drink. There are two dining areas at Katers, separated by a courtyard. We were seated on one of the areas, and a wedding party was going on in the other area. Service was attentive, and the food was superb. The wine list featured many local wines. Would recommend this venue for a special meal.

We went with a tour. Not disappointed as there were so many choices of what to eat. Staff are friendly and fantastic. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and the views are amazing. Really makes a great outlook. Couldn’t fault the food.

An excellent restaurant

This restaurant is actually open, unlike what it says on this TripAdvisor site. We enjoyed a delicious dinner there in a fairly empty room. The menu was that happy medium between being limited and overly extensive. The range of choices would surely satisfy all tastes. The wine list had a good choice at all price points. Service was professional, friendly and efficient. The dishes chosen by our party were all very good. The scallops and pork were the two standouts. We would recommend this restaurant to all staying at the hotel and people in the region.
