We stayed at this beautiful Hotel on Saturday 21st September 2024 for one night for our Anniversary get away and wow where do I start? It was absolutely stunning 🤩 with lots of lovely little touches, with some quirky decor it was also classy 😍 our room was outstanding it was totally stunning 🤩 the food was absolutely delicious with no need to use salt and pepper as the flavours were absolutely amazing, the food was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection so compliments to the Chef 🧑🍳 There was actually two goats cheese parcels but I ate one before I took the photo because the aroma was too tempting to wait 😋 we had Eggs Benedict for breakfast but I forgot to take a photo before we ate them 🤦🏻♀️ but I guarantee that it was as delicious and beautifully presented as all the other food we had 😋 we had the best nights sleep on the most comfortable mattress so we will definitely return in the future. We would even have a ride out just to have a meal because it is definitely worth travelling for. All the staff were lovely, friendly, pleasant, very attentive, they couldn’t do enough for the guests and they were all smiling constantly, which makes a pleasant change these days. So we would like to say a big thank you to Rachael Andrews (The General Manager) and all her lovely staff for a wonderful stay and experience of excellent hospitality 🥰 oh one more thing the local views are beautiful too 🤩 The only thing we would change is we would stay for longer. It is a place where you feel very relaxed and can be comfortable being yourself. We would 1000% recommend a visit and will definitely be going again.

One of the best roast dinners I have ever had. The beef was pink and melted in your mouth, not a single chewy piece. Really nice flavours and the children’s portions were quite big.
My only slight criticism is that there should be more gravy. There wasn’t a lot on the plate. They did bring more out but we were charged for this.
A jug of gravy should be included with the roast dinner for the price.
Apart from that, I can’t recommend the place enough. A lucky find and we will be back again.

Just spent the night here. We were given a very friendly welcome. Stayed in " The courtyard" ,a separate building in the car park. Room was lovely and warm, very clean and cosy with beautiful wool blankets on the bed. Had a lovely coffee from the Lavazzo coffee maker and a very tasty, complimentary mince pie. Our evening meals were perfect. I had the steak and kidney pudding. It was full of meat and the suet pastry was delicious. Waiting on staff were all lovely. Had an excellent sleep no noise whatsoever. All I could hear was the church clock chiming. Breakfast was superb, lots of continental items, beautiful flaky croissants followed by a full English cooked breakfast. Can't wait to return here,it was wonderful!

The millstone at Mellor has been a staple for us if we want a quality night out. Unfortunately, in one night they eradicated any further faith in return with just one evening. The food was mediocre, the service was half-hearted (handing us our own cutlery), food wasn’t served at the same time, and when asked how our starters were and we politely informed them of the issue there wasn’t even an apology. (They were removed from the bill though). But the biggest bug bear of the evening was the fact my mum and I shared the seafood platter (another usually lovely staple here). They gave us a huge pot of pate, prawns in Marie Rose sauce, caviar etc. all of which needs eating with a toast of some form. We got two small pieces of Melba toast so we asked for some more to which they told us they’d ran out, so I asked for some sourdough instead which she brought out. As soon as I saw the mother’s pride looking white bread I knew it wasn’t sourdough so I told the girl and she defensively argued it is. Whether it is advertised as sourdough or not, I have enough experience with the stuff to know that this was NOT sourdough. And if they were using cheap packet bread which said it was sourdough …. Why? This is a high market restaurant, not a greasy spoon. You’d expect a place like this to have a contract with a local artisan bakery or the like, not buying their produce in cheap bulk from a supplier who uses additives etc. So when I challenged her on it she said she could check with the chef but that it was sourdough. She returned it defiantly and informed me it was, so I said ‘could we have brown then as this is definitely not the kind of sourdough I meant’ and she again, defensively responded with, ‘you can but you’ll have to pay for it’…. When they were the ones who had ran out of Melba toast. Bear in mind this was one 2 x 4” thin each for a whole platter; the least the restaurant could have done is abundantly given us bread on the house (aka the cheapest food group going; certainly the type of bread supply they were using). After this it tainted our meal and we ate and left, leaving deserts. Please see a photo of their ‘sourdough’ bread attached. Additionally, a woman on the table next to us had to return her wine because she quote, said it tasted like ‘wet dog’. I don’t drink wine but that’s a sure alarm bell. This place used to have polite, welcoming staff dressed in uniform, would provide silver service, excellent food, the whole lot. Something has changed and as a result we will not be rushing back.

We have been to the Millstone many times for family occasions and it’s always been first class but sadly not this time.
My daughter is vegetarian but there was no option for this on the Sunday roast menu as there always had been previously but she managed to find something suitable. When the food arrived there were issues with all but one of the meals. Two of our party ordered venison from the Sunday lunch menu. This was dry and tough and the roast potatoes were hard and chewy. The cod dish arrived without capers and mussels were missing from the Thai fish curry. This element is a favourite of my daughter’s boyfriend and difficult to understand how they were overlooked as they should have been presented in their shells on the top of the dish. We ordered a bottle of red wine which was under strength at 10.5% abv but there was no mention of this on the wine list.
The desserts were excellent however and the service whilst a little slow was acceptable but it’s the first time I’ve been handed cutlery at the table.
The manager did apologise for the errors and made a significant reduction on the bill, however, I would have preferred a positive experience and pay full price. The problems with the food did impact negatively on our celebration. Sadly we are unlikely to return given our experience.

I am not sure if we got this restaurant on a bad day or what, we were very disappointed. It took us just over two hours for a two course meal. The service was very slow, initially had a forty minute wait for our first course (not ideal when you have children with you) and we were served by a waitress with long flowing hair not tied back!! Two of the meals were good, I had venison, which was tough and the whole meal was barely lukewarm, I got a side of braised cabbage which was included in the dish but it came separately (in a red hot dish) and looked like it had been cremated. A kids meal of Burger and chips was awful, the burger was that burnt it could not be eaten, we asked for no cheese on the burger and got cheese which looked like a piece of plastic!!!!!! Sadly disappointed by the whole experience.

Called in for lunch as a last minute decision. The pub was warm and cosy. The lunch menu does not have much choice but we managed to order food which suited us all. Service was quite slow and one of the orders came out wrong, the waiter apologised and offered to change it but to save the wait we kept the meal. The table was not cleared before we left which is annoying and no glasses were collected from our table or any others. Hopefully we will visit again though

We dined here as 2 couples. The ambience was pleasant. The service was quite good. Some of the food was good My starter of duck spring rolls was very nice .However the potatoe & leek soup was only luke warm and very bland .I tasted it and would have sent it back. I had Steak & kidney pudding which was very nice (apart from a measly spoonfull of mushy peas) My partners fish /chips & peas were also good. Two of us had treacle tart with ice cream. We both agreed that although it was enjoyable it was well overpriced at £8.90 for such a small portion that we received.
Overall the food was overpriced in my opinion .

All businesses have a bad day and we ended up on that day.
We were told the hour wait for food was down to staff whilst the table next to us was told it was a problem with ovens.
They seated us in a heavily trafficked area but moved us when we asked.
The Californian Pinot arrived as a Pinot Grigio, was then swapped for a Chilean Pinot and then we were told they had no Californian and we settled for a Merlot which turned back into the original wine on the bill.
The young staff were fabulous if not frazzled and when the main meal came it was outstanding.
The last issue was the Bakewell special from the board. We couldn’t have any, not because they had run out, they simply weren’t prepared to plate any specials.
I’m sure every other night of the years runs smoothly, we’d unfortunately travelled for thirty five minutes to try it for the first time and didn’t receive our meal until after 9.30 which was an hour and a half after being seated.

My reservation at The Millstone was just for one night. The room, whilst quite small (a surprise as it was advertised as an executive room), was nicely decorated and had a comfortable bed with soft fluffy pillows. The bathroom was well appointed and had a good sized P-bath with a double shower. The level of housekeeping could be improved! It's an eye-opener when your pocket of coinage falls on the floor.
When I checked in, I was surprised to be told how wonderful the food was! I thought that this was for me to decide. Dinner, in fact, was very nice although someone ought to explain to the chef what constitutes a fondant potato: not the anaemic lump of undercooked potato that I received that appeared never to have seen any butter. The pork belly was beautifully cooked and the vegetables were very good. Unfortunately, the service was poor! Having finished my meal, after more than 15 minutes of waiting to have my plate cleared, I just decided to retire to my room leaving the table uncleared. I was not the only diner to suffer this and overheard another table grumbling between themselves as they waited even longer than me to have their table cleared.
Breakfast was ok although it little soulless. Standard sliced bread, no croissants or pastries. I would have expected more emphasis on local produce.
When I checked out, again the process was soulless. The gentleman showed no interest in my stay or whether I enjoyed it. Apart from the obvious niggles, I would still recommend the Millstone and may return on another occasion.

The Millstone is a disgrace and a shadow of its former self which is sad to see. Food when it eventually arrived was cold and served on cold plates to boot. Cappuccino was like dish water and we were. left to wait for cutlery all the time food getting colder. The whole experience was dreadful and I would not recommend this pub to anyone especially Sunday lunch.
. I would like to add we had been a few weeks previous in the restaurant and the experience was totally different to the bad service and food served in the bar area. Get your act together manger and staff at the Millstone.

Disappointed with the trajectory of The Millstone over recent months. The service is decent enough and serving staff try their best but the food can be anything from very good on rare occasions to barely edible on most, if there’s any quality control on what comes out of the kitchen it isn’t evident. Basics like fish and chips are being served soggy and undercooked most days and if you’re lucky perfectly served the week after. Portions can be completely different from visit to visit. A Rib eye steak at £20 plus served burned & dry like the sole of a shoe along with one dry tomato and one mushroom. A Sunday Roast with no other veg than mange tout & potatoes, when asked about other veg told there wasn’t any, there’s half a dozen shops within ten minutes drive selling all kinds of exotic vegetables like carrots and cauliflower. Unfortunately for The Millstone there are many great restaurants in the area and it fairs poorly by comparison. We would eat here weekly before lockdown and was always impressed with the food and the hands on friendly service. Visits have become rarer since due to the above issues and afraid to say we’re unlikely to eat hear again unless we hear big changes are made. The restaurant seems far less busy than it used to and it’s hard to get a table at other restaurants in the area, that should have someone at Thwaites thinking, this is supposed to be one of their premium inns.

Brilliant restaurant! We love it here, always our favourite place to go for a nice meal. We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary here this year and always pick millstone when we have a special occasion. The food is always of the best quality, whether it be for an evening meal or Sunday roast. Staff very friendly and attentive and the ambience is lovely. We live near Lytham, so it’s not on our doorstep but it is definitely worth the drive out.

We've visited the Millstone at Mellor many times over the last few years and up till this most recent visit have always experienced good food and excellent service.
However on this occasion all aspects of the experience were very lacking. Upon arrival whilst there was hand sanitiser available, no request was made for us to check-in to the venue or manually take details of the guests visiting (this was still the day before restrictions lifted). Upon being seated and presented with the menus nobody offered to take a drinks order, we had to ask a passing waiter.
Once the drinks had been brought to the table, our order was taken without issue. Three of us had the duck spring rolls, which admittedly were the highlight of the visit, they are still some of the best ive tasted. The final starter included pickled rhubarb which was barely edible as it was so hard, close to raw, obviously not picked for more than a day. It would have helped if the cutlery was sharp enough to cut through anyting other than butter.
The mains were acceptable but nothing to shout about, my own "large" fish and chips seemed to be a small fish and chips with an oversixed batter , not much white fish at all. We were checked a few times by different passing staff as to how we were doing with our meal etc. One offputting point was every time a senior member of staff walked passed us he smelled heavily of cigarette some, not just lightly either which for those of us not accustomed to the smell was not nice.
Only people in the party chose desserts, bothe very expensive for what arrived, over £2 for a single scoop of plain vanilla ice cream and close to £8 for a small slice of tart and a scoop of ice cream, icecream which could not be finished as it was incredibly over soured with either lemon or grapefruit.
I'm not sure if there has been a recent change of management of this Thwaites establishment, i did not recognise anybody that i had previously seen in there on earlier visits,. Whatever the reason standards and food have slipped dramatically, and the whole experience left a sour note. We may try the venue again, but not for a long time, with so many other fine venues close by theres many more to choose from.
I noticed just before writing this review that another customer (via a post on FB) had commented about the same issues, so this may not be an isolated experience.

We stayed here last night and had a fantastic time. The room was perfect, clean, modern and with everything you need, tea coffee etc. We had dinner in the restaurant, food was excellent, made even better with a cosy atmosphere thanks to a roaring log fire and home made biscuits for the dog. Breakfast was exceptional all freshly cooked with everything you could wish for and served by happy, friendly staff.
