Sought refuge during a downpour and were rewarded with a lovely cheap lunch.Excellent veg soup, great bread and a classic francesinha ( a must-do, a large sandwich with beef, sausage and ham coated in grilled cheese and swimming in a piquant soup) a coke and a beer all for 14euros.Obviously beloved by locals who all seemed to have the set lunch... Situated in a busy little street off the main riverside at Vila Nova de Gaia, this little restaurant offers traditional Portugese food at very reasonable prices. I had already read the recommendations before we passed by on our first evening so the following evening we called in. In the evenings it was quiet, in the afternoons it is packed with... More

A small restaurant where the locals eat. Great value for delicious local food. It was interesting sitting amongst the locals and experiencing the vibe.

When you see a menu in the local language, jugs of wine on tables, and elderly (usually female) chefs, it's worth exploring further if you like something genuine in a tourist area. Our limited Portuguese and their limited English ( with smiling service) established 'cover style' starters of smoked meats and cheese with really crisp fresh bread, a half litre... More

We stumbled across this restaurant more by accident than design and were really pleased with it. It's very much a neighbourhood restaurant with lots of local picking up dishes to take home. It specialises in traditional Porto dishes with a lot of offel on the menu. I tried the chicken with rice and chicken blood which wasn't gruesome but absolutely... More

We had the monkfish and prawns. There was still sand inside the prawns and the sauce was rather bland. Can't recommend.

A gem of a restaurant in the side streets of Porto on the port houses side of the river. We arrived just before 1pm and got one of the last available tables. We went for the tourist menu. It was delicious. Freshly cooked sardines, sumptuous salads, tasty bread and fresh, fruity vinho verde. Sometimes, you expect smaller portions for a... More

When we were walking at the mainstream of Porto, we asked a local person if there is a local restaurant to eat. They suggested this one and when we entered, we asked for an English menu. "Not available" they said, means we were at the right place. The food was incredibly delicious and I like the homemade wine very much.... More
