Good food, friendly , decent prices for the German entrées, real German beer, portions were generous, schnitzels were crispy and tasty. The wild Mushroom soup was outstanding. Nice place.

I lived in Germany for ten years and been all over Germany in years since and this is one of the best German restaurants i’ve been to in the U.S..
Food was very good and abudant. But what turns us OFF are some of the restaurant policies or business practices. They charge 4% extra if you use your credit card and in case you want to share the food you are paying for, they charge...extra $7 on top of it.More
Nasty lukewarm food, I make better German food, drinks not good, bread was stale and poor quality, bathroom nasty.
This food here is fantastic. Service was great too. We didn't have what I would say are traditional German dishes, but they were fantastic
The Good: red pepper soup with crab meat was delicious and creamy; bavarian pretzel texture and taste very good. Dinner special of breaded pork w/ creamy gouda sauce and pineapple on top was very good; the service was also very good. Also, the meat portions...are large. The Bad: The Jäger Schnitzel described as a prime veal medallions covered with mushroom, bacon and fresh cream…the meat was chewy & bland aside from the sauce which unfortunately did not enhance the dish as it did not have a creamy taste nor texture, but rather had a sour taste & runny sauce…could not eat much of this dish. Overall, since there was more good than bad would give it another try.More
Only our 2nd time having dinner here . First time was June 2022. That visit was excellent as well . We were lucky to have the same server Brittany ! Very friendly hostess seated us . Brittany is very knowledgeable of the menu & specials.... Professional and personable . The attendant Nick was on point , clearing dishes , refilling the family style sides and our drinks . The food was delicious and big portions . We started with the Bavarian Pretzel with beir cheese - huge and so good . Our entrees were pork schnitzel and veal schnitzel, large & delicious . The family style sides we enjoyed were red cabbage , spatzle, sauerkraut and hot potato salad . For dessert we shared wonderful Black Forest cake . We look forward to coming here again !More
We have been trying to eat here in several years. Our family from Warrenton decided it was worth the hour ride with 3 kids. NOT! The reservation was for upstairs. All tables had white tableclothes but not ours even though we had a reservation. We...were greeting and seated but noticed that the outfits that the waitresses wore were tired looking. Not a good start. The meals arrived fairly quick but my son and I had the Jaegerschnitzel for $29 which was unedible. The meat was supposed to be veal but we were unable to cut it and had to send it back,. As soon as you send back a meal the whole party is eating alone and you have to watch them eat. Our Wiener Schnitzel subsitute came a few min. later. The family style vegetables arrived and were hit or miss. Great red cabbage but the rest of the offerings were overcooked. I strongly suggest that the chef updates the menu by traveling to Bavaria . We just returned from a trip there . This was so disappointing for the price we paid. No dessert but the beer was good and cold.More
This was our 10 trip from Richmond,Va back to Madison, Va to enjoy a great meal doing October Fest and Halloween. Great food love the Pork Chops and Sanks.
Saw this place on the way home from camping and pulled my RV into the lot and found a parking spot that fit. I lived in Germany and traveled extensively for 8 years in the 80s and 90s and the food here is authentic and...awesome. Overordered everything and took what we couldn't eat home for another great meal.More
This has been our go-to restaurant for special occasions. So we went today for our 29th anniversary. The waitress was asking for our menu choices before we had even opened the menu. The food as delicious, as always, but we were in and our in...forty minutes! Very, very rushed. Could have had a more peaceful celebration at McDonalds. Scratching this one from our go-to listMore
A good variety of real German dishes. I had rheinischer sauerbraten (marinated beef) and by wife had stuffed shrimp scampi. The 2 entrees came with 4 sides to be shared. We loved the taste of everything, and the portions are generous (we took home leftovers)....We made the mistake of each ordering a desert (German chocolate cake and Black Forest cake). It was a mistake because they were so very good and we ate it all. We were wonderfully stuffed - should have shared a single desert. All in all, a wonderful Anniversary dinner!More
The facility is classic and provides a wonderful environment for a German based dinner. We were fortunate to be seated in a cozy booth on the second floor. My wife loved and greatly enjoyed her wiener schnitzel while I had a wonderful salmon. I must...say that the helpings were large and neither of us could consume all of our food which never happens. Staff was attentive and very helpful while not being intrusive. It was a wonderful dining experience.More
I have been eating at Bavarian Chief since it opened in 1973. It has changed hands several times. You always get more good food than you are able to eat in one sitting. This trip the food was better than last visit with the same...large helpings. On this trip the sides were improved, mushrooms in string beans, cabbage less sweet , more care in potato salad, and spatzle with better flavor. The salmon special was cooked to perfection.More
My family enjoyed a delicious German meal featuring Alpine Schnitzel, a giant homemade pretzel, an array of sausages, German beer, and wonderful desserts. Highly recommend. We'll being returning again and again.
